Sight

She can tell that there's something wrong with him. His smile isn't so sugary and profusely energetic anymore, and by some odd twist of fate, it seems like she's the only one that notices it. She wonders, briefly, if she has anything to do with, but she dismisses the thought as paranoia. Tai would tell her if he has a problem with her; of that, she is nearly sure.

They haven't been very close lately. As in, he won't tell her everything about his life anymore, and she finds herself running to Mimi if something important happens in her life—not Tai. He doesn't always attend her tennis matches, but she knows that he tries his best to come. She wishes she could say the same about her attendance at his soccer games (though they are seldom now), but she can't.

Despite all of this, they are still linked by the intricate thread of invisible emotion that is friendship, and somewhere along the road—probably on a part they've both already passed—they are still young, cheerful, and running along in the park, arms linked, while the thread is stronger than ever. This thread still exists, of course, but it's like a flimsy piece of string compared to the rope they once held.

However—eyesight is always twenty-twenty when it comes to your best friend.

He's weakening, she can tell. His movements don't reflect an athlete's so much anymore; he is stiff, like cardboard, and she finds herself wondering why. She won't ask him, though, for it's as if an unspoken law has been passed—Tai and Sora are to act as best friends no more. She has always been the goody-two-shoes, no matter her rebellious looks, and if they are to break such a law, Tai will have to be the one to go first.

The number one unbreakable rule of friendship is to help when the other is in need, but she can't comply with this; what's more: she won't.

The thread breaks.

Author's Note (Important; please read):

Okay, so this was written as an "example fic" for the Taiora Olympics, which is pretty much a competition/prompt type thing that TaioraWarrior and I are starting. Instead of explaining the entire thing, I'll just copy the profile announcement onto this thing. (The profile announcement will be—duh—featured on both TaioraWarrior's and my profiles.)

~The Taiora Olympics~

So, let's get straight to it. TaioraWarrior and I have decided to start something called the Taiora Olympics. The main purpose of this is to spread Taiora and have a bit of fun. :)

Basically, you look at the prompt we give you, and write a oneshot on it. Simple, no? Now, a few more things.

There are two entry types. The first is the normal entry type, where you will not be judged but can be added to the community anyways. The second is the competition entry, where you will be judged.

The top three winners will be featured on both profiles along with a few comments from us, along the lines of why we like it and why it's an excellent read. If you wish to enter, PM either me or TaioraWarrior with a link to your fic and whether or not you want it to be in the competition.

There will also be a holiday prompt, alongside the regular one, though fics done for the holiday prompt cannot be entered in the competition and must be published on the date of that holiday.

Also, all entries must be oneshots or drabbles (ficlets that are less than 500-600 words, like my example). You can interpret the prompt in any way you want; just keep it at a PG-13 level. ;)

This is a monthly thing, so all entries are due by the end of the month, before a new challenge starts up.

Now, without further ado, the prompt for the month of October: best friends

The holiday prompt for the holiday of Halloween: candy

Have fun. :)
