Sun Shang Xiang watched as the riders on the horses became more visible. The front guard carried the banner of Wu. But something was wrong. The horses were moving at a crawl. They flanked a single unmarked carriage no each side. Even from here it was easy to see how the riders kept looking from left to right as though wary. This was not the way of the Wu warriors that she had grown to know and love.

"Still watching them?"

She turned to the man who was her husband in name only. "Yes. Why aren't they moving faster? Are they scared we'll attack them? Or is there another reason?"

"That we can only discover once they arrive. Now come wife, we must prepare to greet them." With that Liu Bei took his bride's hand and pulled her towards their private chambers.

Zhou Tai stood guard behind his lord and master, Sun Quan. It was tedious standing there but he knew that not only was he good for intimidating but he could also prove invaluable later on discussing the day's topics with his ruler. Since Lord Sun Ce's death the Wu court had been split. Many wanted to wait to see if Sun Ce's wife, Da Qiao was pregnant with a boy or girl, while the other half believed that Lord Sun Quan should take over until the sex of the child was known.

He didn't care who ruled. The only thing he cared about was protecting the man that his lord had told him to protect. With a sigh he wearily watched the next person step forward to appeal to his lord.

Da Qiao sighed heavily as the horses kept up their annoyingly slow crawl towards Shu's capitol city. One hand went to her rounded belly and cradled it. This was the last thing that she honestly had of her beloved Sun Ce. Tears ran down her face as she acknowledged the fact. For the love between her and her now dead husband, she would protect this child with her life, even if the rumors were true that Sun Quan wanted it dead.
