Abnormalities

Katsuya Jonouchi had always known that Yuugi Mutou was not normal. For one thing, the boy was only five feet tall and had large amethyst eyes. This made him look like a little kid (and he tended to act like one too). For another thing, Yuugi had big, spiky, tri-colored hair. His hair was about half of his height! Still, there were stranger things about Yuugi.

He never played sports at recess, sat by himself at lunch, was always playing some game (board games, card games, puzzles games) and never stuck up for himself or voiced his opinion. Seriously, the kid was a doormat. Even with all of that, there was one thing about Yuugi that made everything else seem normal.

Jonouchi befriended and started hanging with Yuugi only a couple of months ago. Prior to that, he was Yuugi's regular bully. As friends, Jonouchi chose to ignore all of the oddities and focused more on the young teen's good points. He respected Yuugi's optimism and constant encouragement. Yuugi was as extremely loyal friend and would do anything to help Jonouchi. Games were Yuugi's specialty and he never lost. Never. It was as if he was born to play them…Especially since he solved the Millennium Puzzle.

The Puzzle…it was around the time that Yuugi solved that ancient relic that Jonouchi had began questioning the other's sanity. Sure, prior to that he hadn't seen the small teen outside of school. Still, Yuugi's behavior was so drastic and disturbing that he knew it hadn't been going on before they became friends. It couldn't have.

Anzu had told Jonouchi that Yuugi's grandpa had said that the Puzzle was cursed, and that the solver would be granted odd powers. Well, Yuugi sure was acting oddly. He seemed to have grown an attachment to the Puzzle. He never removed it and was often seen either stroking its gold exterior or talking to it.

It was really creepy! The first time Jonouchi had caught Yuugi doing he had feared the boy had lost it. At the time, Yuugi had managed to calm his friend down and convince him that he was fine, but now, after months of similar scenarios, Jonouchi was sure that Yuugi wasn't fine.

So maybe he was nuts and maybe he needed help. Jonouchi didn't mind. Yuugi was his friend, and friends accept each other for who they are. That didn't mean that he wouldn't get Yuugi some help. He was going to talk to someone about it today. Friends helped each other like that.

Jonouchi had no idea what was going to come from all of this, but one thing was certain: Whatever had happened when Yuugi had solved the Puzzle, he was no in for one long, strange ride.
