I awoke in a cold sweat as I had that dream again. The dream where I'd finally found the one, the person to lead me away from my barren life of loneliness! His warm silky fur flowed through my fingers like butter. If only my dreams aligned to reality… I'd better get ready for today.
I stepped out of my modest apartment and into my tattered car, in which I drove to my job at a mediocre sandwich shop like I did every week. Unexciting routine but I do it 'cause it pays well. That morning I checked in expecting it to be a normal shift, but someone I didn't recognize caught my eyes. He wasn't human, he had a blue fur coat and white muzzle. Must've been a new employee; I'd never seen him around the place. Not paying attention to this I attended my work station waiting for the meager amount of customers that normally show up to walk through the door. However, little to my knowledge the new guy was sharing the same shift as me. Now I got a better look at his face; I took the opportunity to size him up a bit. His name was "Danny" judging by his name tag. I was caught off-guard when he peered in my direction and we made eye contact for the first time. His curious gaze just stared into mine. I've no clue why but it made me feel good. A few seconds passed, and the gaze was broken by Danny's paw waving in front of my face.
"You okay?" Danny asked with a concerned look. I scrambled to my senses and put on a rueful grin. "I'm fine, don't worry about it" I replied nervously. "Ah, good. I'd like to get to know you since we'll be spending the next few hours together and no one'll show up for a while. My name is Danny, pleasure to meet you!" He held his paw out in front of him in a gesture for me to shake it. I reached out, grabbed it and did just that. His paw felt good in my hand, as if I were grabbing a soft fuzzy pillow. "That's the spirit!" Danny chuckled. "You must be Jacob, yeah?" He asked rhetorically as he read my name-tag. I just nodded in response as I tried to contain myself. alot of things were flying through my head at once, but the most dominant memory was that of the dream I had this morning. I felt like this the whole shift until it ended when me and Danny both clocked out. "Seeya later Jacob!" Danny excitedly said across the shop from the door. He turned to leave but I quickly beckoned his name. He turned back towards me in response. "Wanna get lunch together?"
