Temptation
"No!"
Martin ran forward, screaming in horror. The poor lad embraced her and disappeared. Martin's heart leapt into his throat as his sword flashed from its scabbard.
"You won't find me such easy prey!"
He stepped slowly towards the apparition. She was beautiful there as she floated above the ground, her gown stirring in the source-less breeze softly blowing about her form.
Her skin was white as pearl, her hair as black as night. She was surrounded by an ethereal blue glow.
Martin stared at her, fury in his eyes.
"What do you want with them? Where do they go?"
The only answer he received was a song. Her voice was lovely; silky smooth, clear as a bell. Irresistable.
Martin's gaze shifted from fury to adoration. His palms grew sweaty, the sword suddenly heavy in his hands. His feet moved forward sluggishly and unbidden. His breathing became labored. His left arm reached out, his right dragging the sword along the ground.
A heavenly voice spoke to him from the back of his mind:
"That's it. Just a little closer now. Just a little farther and I'm all yours."
His head swam as the singing continued, reaching new heights of beauty and intensity with every note- and with every step. He was just within reach of the Siren when another voice, silky, but also golden and strong, shouted to his addled brain.
Martin my son, awake! Death is before you! Awake!"
In one gasp his strength and presence of mind returned. Even as the Siren wrapped her arms about him, he raised his sword, shouting:
"Aslan!"
The creature shrieked in pain and defiance, whether from the blade or the Name. Her eyes fixed upon his as she shrieked again.
"Your Lion may have saved you this time, Martin of Narnia, but I have sisters unnumbered, and the will avenge me!"
Her words grew ever higher, each one fuller of hate and anguish than the one before. Then, in a blast of light, she vanished. The force of the blast sent Martin sprawling.
His hands shook as he stood, returning his sword to its scabbard.
"My son."
Warm breath blew softly across his face.
"Aslan."
The Lion smiled.
"Never fear Temptation Martin, for I am with you always. Greater am I than any Temptation. Only heed my words and call upon my Name."
With one last blow the Lion faded away, and Martin smiled as he made his way out of the old castle and out into the sunlight.

A/N: I know, I know, "GET TO WORK ON NIGHTSLAYER!". Believe me, I'd love to, but my laptop is down, and my system repair disc is in another state! I'll get to work on it as soon as my laptop is fixed and backed up. Promise.
