Luna shook her head. She knew that Nightmare Moon was still there. She knew that the part of her that had nearly destroyed the kingdom she watched over was still alive.

The princess shook her head. Queen Chrysilis had shown her that. The hatred that the insect like alicorn had brought out, the small dark voice that had offered her power to destroy the changeling, Nightmare Moon.

The dark alicorn had laughed as Luna rejected the offer.

'You'll want my power eventually, Luna my dear.' Nightmare Moon said.

Luna looked at the moon she had raised a scant few hours ago and thought about the price she would have had to pay to gain the power needed.

"Bah, thou are a blasted curse, Nightmare Moon." Luna said.

She spun around when she heard faint laughter. 'I'm still you, Luna.' She heard the dark alicorn's voice. 'You will never be rid of me.'

Luna frowned. 'I don't need thee.'

'Need?' Nightmare Moon said. 'I never said anything about needing me, just that I will always be there.'

Luna pawed the ground nervously.

'Even when your own sister forgot about you, I was there for you.'

'Thee betrayed me!' Luna said.

Nightmare Moon laughed. 'You wanted to be acknowledged, my dear.'

'I wanted to be loved.' Luna said.

'As much as I hate to say it, you are.' Nightmare Moon's voice was soft, almost sad.

'That's why I don't need thee.' Luna said.

'Hm, you might one day, when your power is not enough, I will be there.' She said.

'But the price will be too high.' Luna thought.

Nightmare Moon laughed. 'A few days of night, is that too much for the power needed to save those ungrateful ponies?'

Luna looked down. She didn't know. If it meant the difference between total destruction and saving Equestria, she probably would take the deal.

'One day, Luna.' She said. 'One day the Elements of Harmony won't be enough. Like everypony, they will fail. What will happen then? Hm? Will you and your sister be enough again?'

Luna felt the dark alicorn slid into the back of her mind, leaving her much to think about.
