"Can you play the piano, Ryuzaki-san?"

The pale detective raised his eyes from the baby grand he had been examining and gave the boy a blank look.

"Ye-es..." He drew the word out into two syllables, obviously reluctant to answer.

"You should play for Misa!" The blonde model popped up out of nowhere and attached herself to Light's arm. THere was a short pause and then she added with obvious disdain, "And take off those ridiculous hand cuffs."

Ryuzaki turned his blank stare from Light to Misa, but, for whatever unfathomable reason, he sat dow and began to play. No one knew the tune aside from him self. That didn't phase him, however, as he bent over the keyboard with the look of concentration he usually reserved for particularly hard cases.

"It's... beautiful..." Misa whispered to Light. He only nodded mutely.

Yes, beautiful... He thought.

That night, the same haunting tune echoed through the mostly empty base. Misa sat next to Light, for once not forcing herself on the boy. She could almost imagine Ryuzaki's fingers dancing across the keys.

"It's beautiful..." She whispered again. Light jerked his head noncommittally.

Then, as if raising himself from a trance, he shook himself and said, "It's a pity we're gonna have to kill him."

A/N: Well... that was depressing.

Note: This is my one and (probably) only foray into the wonderful world of Death Note fanfiction. Thanks. :D

Annother note: I just found this on my hard drive as of 8/17. It's really old….
