Summary: 13 year old Venna Rowan's jouney is about to begin. Orphaned at age 9, Venna has nothing except her memories...and an ornate mirror she found the night her parents died. When she awakens one night to find the mirror glowing, Venna is sucked into an alternate dimension, arriving at a school known as the House of Night. And that's when her story really begins.

Blood everywhere. What's happening? What's going on? My parents. Lying on the floor. So cold. Bodies slashed. So much blood. Blood everywhere.
I run. Tear from the room as fast as I can. Run outside. Collapse on the grass sobbing. What's that over there? Shining. I crawl over to it. A mirror. I pick it up. I remember the scene inside. Mom. Dad. Dead. All dead. I collapse and the world goes black.
I know it's short but it's just the prologue. I also know it's kind of weird, but the character is in shock. She walked into the house and found her parents bodies! Of course she's in shock.
