I Had a Nightmare

The floor was shaking. An earthquake? Uncle Scar had told me to sit here and wait. Dad was going to give me a surprise. A present! I couldn't wait, but now I was scared. Worried, more, but still scared. Why wasn't Dad here? I turned around on the scorching canyon floor – and watched as a stampede rushed toward me. Great… what have I gotten myself into this time?Dad is so gonna kill me.

The beasts raced toward me running from some unknown predator. They crashed over me, into the tree that provided me shade. I had no choice, but to run along, or get squashed. That wouldn't be a great idea. Another tree loomed up ahead. I jumped on the bark and pulled myself up. Safety, for a time. Zazu flew up next to me. "Zazu! Zazu! Help me! Please! Zazu! I can't hold on much longer!" I shouted over the wildebeest. I slipped, but caught the branch before I fell to my death. "Please, get my dad! Help me!!" And he flew off.

My claws slipped against the old bark. I whimpered.Great. If I get out of this mess, Dad's gonna kill me!"Help, someone help!!" The dust tickled my nose, but I was too scared to sneeze. If I sneezed, I might fall. Oh, someone please get here in time to save me! Dad! Uncle Scar! Someone!! Tears formed in my eyes. My paw slipped. My other paw slipped as I tried to get back up. "Ahh!!" But I didn't feel any hard horns on my back. I felt my dad catch me.

He threw me up on the cliff and then tired to pull himself up too. "C'mon Dad! C'mon, get up here, Dad! We gotta go home!" He tried and tried again and again. Then he slipped. "No! Dad!" But he was okay. I saw him run with the stampede. I watched him come up the cliff. "C'mon, Dad!" I ran up the side of the cliff, hoping to see my dad come up and greet him and tell him how sorry I was. I came to an opening. He was still climbing. He was still fighting, but I couldn't see him after he climbed a couple feet. Part of the canyon blocked him.

He was going home with me. I believed that for a few minutes. Then I saw him falling. Falling into the stampede.

"NO!"

Night had fallen; the cub squirmed in his bed.

I ran to his side. He had been trampled and… and killed. I ran up to his side, tears filling my eyes. "Dad?" I whispered, "Dad, c'mon, we gotta go home."We gotta go home so you can yell at me and tell me never to do it again. And then I'll say that I was down there cuz Uncle Scar said u had a present to give me. And then you'd forgive me and we'd be okay again."C'mon dad…C'mon..." I whimpered, and lay down next to my father.

Uncle Scar appeared from out of the shadows. "Oh, my… what are you going to tell your mother?"Mom! No… I can't tell her…what I've done…And I ran off. But suddenly I was falling… falling… falling. I was back at the stampede, but how? It was in the past…what was going on? What was happening? I fell farther and farther but I didn't hit the ground. What… what's going on?? Help me! Someone…

The cub's eyes shot open. He breathed heavy… the memory of what happened. The nightmare. Simba found his way over to Timon and Pumba's bed for the third time that night. "Timon… Timon." He slid off of Pumba's belly complaining about not getting enough sleep. "Uhm, actually… Timon, I had a nightmare." Timon elbowed Pumba. The pair welcomed the lion-cub into their bed. But they never knew what the nightmare was about.

About how Simba had killed his own dad.
