Disclaimer: I do not own the Ace Combat franchise or any of the concepts and characters of said franchise. I do own all of the OCs and concepts created by me for this story.
This is just a little idea I had. I liked it pretty well, so I figured I could share. This takes place directly after the Circum-Pacific war ends in my story Legendary Aces: The Legend of Razgriz. (Ace Combat 5)
Legendary Aces: Passing the Torch
-Jack Bartlett-
Sand Island
January 2011
"It's been a long time since the three of us have been together." I said. I was sitting on the bench next to one of the hangars with both of my sisters. "I've been wonderin' when you'd get off your ass and come for a visit, Allison."
Allison didn't even blink an eye, but I wasn't surprised. She's more of a hardass than me, being little miss Ace of Aces. She'd better watch out, Kid's gonna come for that title.
"You did good." Layla said.
"I think I got wax in my ears. I could have sworn I just heard the Demon Lord praising somebody."
"Yeah, yeah."
I leaned back on the bench and just glared out at the sea. What surprised me next was Allison standing up.
"Our time has passed. We may still be the best fighter pilots in the world, but it won't be long until they surpass us."
"Hey, I ain't ready to throw in the towel yet. I still have some teachin' to pound into them." I said.
"I'll never throw in the towel, but perhaps something else."
"I know what you mean." Layla said. "It's their turn now, but we'll always been here if they need us."
"Yeah, those brats would be lost without us." I said. "Kid's become one hell of a fighter pilot."
"Yami has the same potential." Allison added.
"Just give it a few years and they'll show us all." Layla said.
"Layla, Allison, I think it's time to pass the torch." I said. Both of them turned and gave me a suspicious glance. "Hey, don't think that means I'm gonna stop torturing nuggets. Oh, no. With Kid protectin' the sky, I'll have more time with the nuggets. That just means it's gonna get worse."
For the first time in years, the three of us were able to share a laugh together.
'You hear that, Kid? You're the one. I knew you had something special the day you first told me you wanted to become a fighter pilot. You were just a little girl back then, but I could see the fire in your eyes. Look at you now. Captain Kye Akari, leader of the Razgriz. If it's to you, I think I can pass on the torch. Just don't forget that you'll always be my nugget.'
