I have plenty more of this story, but I'm stuck a couple chapters or so on. If you'd offer me any bit of feedback, you would help me immensely. Okay, enjoy!
Donna's sitting alone in the common room the day they bring the new guy in. He looks more irritated than anything, which is unusual. Generally people freak out, cry, or are too doped up to notice. Donna sits up a little straighter.
He glances around the room at everyone, frowning. Donna follows his gaze, looking at everyone she knew well. Not her friends, though - barely anyone talked to her here. They found her … abrasive.
The man finishes his survey, then sits down heavily in one of the chairs scattered around the room. Most everyone ignores him, so wrapped up they are in their own little worlds. Donna sighs, standing up and crossing the room to sit in the chair across from him. He looks up, frowning when he sees her.
"I'm sure you're nice n' all," he says, in a voice deeper than she'd expected. "But I'm not dealing with any crazies today, okay?"
Donna snorts. "I'm not crazy."
He gives her a look. "I don't know if you've noticed, but - " He points upward, spinning his hand in a circle, indicating the environment. Donna laughs.
"Well, you're here too," she points out. He concedes the point with a sigh.
"I'm not crazy either," he says. It sounds like he's pleading with her. Please, believe me?
"You don't sound crazy," she agrees. "I'm Donna." She sticks out her hand.
"Dean." He shakes it.
"So what're you in for?"
He takes a long time before he answers. "I'm not insane, okay?"
Donna raises an eyebrow. "So you've said … "
"Demons, and angels? Basically every nightmare. They're real."
Donna presses her lips together but doesn't reply. He seemed very, very sane … but that didn't mean he wasn't crazy.
"You don't believe me."
She shakes her head.
Dean looks irritated again. She quickly scrambles to reassure him, not wanting to lose this possibility of friendship.
"It's okay though - 'cos you can believe anythin' you want. Maybe they are real. Maybe I jus' haven't seen 'em yet." The last bit she'd only said to make him feel better, but as soon as they reached the air she realized they could be true.
"Yeah. Right." Dean makes to get up and, presumably, find someone who will believe him. Donna pouts.
"C'mon, don't go. It could be true."
Dean shoots her a poisonous look. "The devil tried to take possession of my brother. My father was killed by a demon. He's in Hell now. My best friend is an angel, even if he can be a jerk sometimes … "
Donna nodded. "My best friend's a jerk sometimes too."
He laughed. "You wanna know the whole story?"
"All of it."
He shrugged. "Alright."
