The bedroom was practically an igloo, Nick though lying awake, shivering. "Jess. . . Jessica!" Nick whispered, tapping her lightly.
Jess pushed him away, mumbling incoherently in her sleep.
"Jess you're hogging all the blankets!" Nick whispered, this time a little louder.
Jess remained asleep, rolled up snug and warm in all the blankets.
Nick shook her, using a little more force than he had wanted to, sending Jess crashing to the floor.
"MILLER! WHAT THE. . . " Jess screeched, unrolling herself from her cocoon of blankets.
"You were hogging the blankets!" Nick yelled.
"So, you pushed me off the bed?!"
"I tried to wake you."
Jess glared at Nick. "Sure, you did. Surrrre." She picked the blankets up, throwing them on the bed.
"Oh, here we go again . . . no, never mind It's 4 a.m. Let's go back to sleep." Nick replied, rubbing his eyes drowsily.
"What do you mean here we go again?' Jess asked, crossing her arms defensively over her chest.
Nick stood up on the other side of the bed. He adjusted the sheet. "You always do this. Even if you do something, somehow it's my fault."
"I do not!" Jess said, fluffing her pillow angrily. "It is your fault! You shoved me off the bed!"
"You wouldn't wake up! I could have lost my toes to hippothermia!" Nick yelled, throwing his hands up.
Jess rolled her eyes. "It's HYPOthermia, and we live in Califorina Nick. It was forty-nine degrees today."
"Look at me, I'm Jessica Day, I swaddle myself in all the blankets and don't know how to share." He fluttered his eyelashes and pretended to flip a ponytail around.
Jess opened her mouth appalled. "Oh, you think you're so funny huh?"
Nick shrugged. "I am funny."
Jess scooted across the mattress on her knees, getting inches away from Nick's face. She scrunched up her brow. "I'm Nick Miller, and I shove innocent, sleeping girlfriends off the bed if they won't give me the blanket. I'm so tuff. Grrr, humph, aggghh."
Nick arched his eyebrow, confused. "What on earth was that?"
"That was me doing your angry noises."
Nick leaned in, touching his nose to hers. "you drive me crazy woman."
Jess smiled up at him coyly. "you make me absolutely irate." She grabbed his face, bringing her lips against his.
Nick placed his hand on the back of her head, bringing her in closer. "You're so bossy!" He murmured, not taking his lips off of hers.
Jess began to nibble at his neck, trailing down to his chest. "you. . . are. . . the most. . . financially irresponsible. . . . person I know!" Jess breathed between kisses.
Nick grasped her chin lightly, tipping her head up so he could kiss her again. Nick's firm embrace sent a tingle down her spine.
Jess pulled away, breathless. "Are you still cold?"
Nick grinned, mischievously. "A little, but I know a way to warm up. . . and we won't need blankets."
