It was a very interesting letter, was all Zuko could think when he had finished reading it. Certainly it explained a lot, and the spirits knew Zuko needed that.

It just was a little surprising, that was all.

For one thing, the way she started it. It was just plain rude. No dear or anything of the sort; just….Zuko.

Zuko,

Wow, I must be crazy to be even writing this, because if you ever get ahold of it, I would just die.

So Katara could tell the future as well. That was a little more than disturbing. The next line was worse; she could have thought to prepare Zuko, at least, for what came next.

I love you.

Interesting. It almost made him feel a little guilty, knowing that she had felt that way about him.

I know you feel the same way.

Now that was a killer. To have someone trust you that much, then have something like this happen. It was enough to send anyone, even Zuko, on a guilt trip…regardless of whether they returned the feeling or not.

I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Guilt, guilt, guilt…was that the only emotion he was capable of?

Which is why I think I must be going insane.

Oh. Apparently anger was in there, too.

I know, though, that if you are reading this, I am one of two thing – dead, or accepted my…feelings.

Ouch. That hurt – Katara didn't always think she would be in denial.

What I want to say, I guess, is that I care about you more than anything or anyone else, and you'll never be alone, no matter if I'm physically with you or not.

Zuko was only able to realize that that feeling probably wasn't qualified as of now.

This is a short letter.

She always did like to state the obvious.

And I don't want to finish it, because that would almost be like admitting that my feelings for you are…real.

Ooo, that was simply painful. She had been serious.

But I've decided that they are, and so you should take careful noice of how I sign out of this letter.

Katara had decided she was right? The little water witch much have enjoyed torturing him.

Love,

Katara

Finally, it was over. Zuko raised his head to look up at the execution about to take place, and couldn't help but cringed at the look in her eyes. Katara had given this to him right when Azula attacked…right before she knew the truth.

If he only looked at her out of the corner of his eye, Zuko could almost pretend he was his feelings were really for the raven-haired girl next to him. He could almost pretend that he had been right to betray their little gang and go to the Fire Nation, where they needed him most. He could almost pretend it wasn't his fault.

Zuko could almost pretend he didn't love her back.

And, for a moment, he almost jumped up from his seat and told his sister that if Katara was going to die, he was going with her, honor or not.

Almost.

I'm trying to decide if the letter was too short or not...What did you think of it? I don't believe this would happen in the show, no, but you gotta love evil Zuko...
