A/N: This is a gift fic for The Rish, for letting me use an idea of hers and talking with me relentlessly, even though I'm kind of crazy and will babble on and on and on. I hope you like this, The Rish! Also, this is AU if you can't tell.
Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach. I make no profit from this.
"How many babies are we going to have, Kensei?" Mashiro asked, twirling in the yard of their new house as Kensei searched for the correct key to unlock the door. They'd only been married two months, but they decided they'd had enough of their shanty little apartment, with it's leaking faucets and tendency towards harboring mice.
Kensei looked at her as he shoved the key into the lock and opened the door. The door squealed as it opened. Damn, that's going to need some WD-40. Kensei thought as he tried to establish an answer for her.
"Kensei!" Mashiro yelped, tackling Kensei from behind. "Answer me!"
Damn, she was lucky he loved her. If any other woman had done that to him, anyone other than his beautiful wife, he would've walked away or screamed at them.
"How many do you want?" Kensei sighed, examining the hinge on the door. He knew going into the marriage that this would come up, but he hadn't thought that it would this soon.
"Hmm..." Mashiro kissed his back, just between his shoulder blades, eliciting a shiver from the man. "Four."
Kensei's mind reeled at that. "Four?" He repeated, dumbstruck. "Why?"
"Because then there's an even number, so they'll all have someone to play with, duh!" Mashiro laughed, her arms still around his middle. "And two isn't enough." She paused for a moment. "Definitely four."
The door squeaked again as the window blew it slightly.
Kensei didn't answer. He'd never exactly hated kids, as much as there had been several bratty kids that had ruined children in general for him. "Ok, four." He agreed, though he hoped that she'd change her mind before they actually started trying to have kids.
But as he did maintenance on the house and moved boxes inside, he thought about it. He thought about having a son or even a daughter who was just as sweet and caring as Mashiro. Who reminded him that he loved Mashiro so much he had wanted to have children with her, despite his bad experiences with the younger set.
Well, now that he thought about it, maybe four wasn't so bad after all.
A/N: It's kind of on the drabble-y side, but it made its point. I hoped everyone liked, especially you, The Rish!
