Chapter one
"Okay Lucas, have a great trip." Haley said trying to end her phone call with her longest friend. "Yes, I'll get your mail and stuff. Now go Lucas go! You and Peyton have a good time on your book tour. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye, yeah love you too." Haley smiled as she hung up the phone. "He just never shuts up does he Zeus?" She laughed looking at her St Bernard who just stared back at her with his big brown eyes. Haley collapses on the couch wrapping her hands around he big mug of coffee. Zeus jumped up next to her and snuggle down beside her.
Suddenly, Haley woke to Zeus' barking at the door. As she woke she stretched and yawned. "Okay, okay let's go." She stood up and grabbed the lead and doggy stuff before heading out the door.

"Slow down! Come back here! Zeus!" Haley yells chasing her dog down the street from the park. Haley reached her apartment complex to hear Zeus' barking. "Shh Zeus it's late, shh." She finally caught up to him as he was sitting staring at the entrance to her apartment. "What has gotten in to you?!" She asked.
"I think maybe it was me" said a voice Haley hadn't heard in about six years. She turned her head to see the raven haired, deep blue eyed boy staring back at her
" Hi, Hales.
Haley was lost for words " N... Nathan?" She said just to be met by his smirk "hi". She was shocked and all she could do was think back to the past time she saw him.
XXXX FLASHBACK XXXX
It was the night after graduation, Haley was standing talking to Brooke. " So you and Peyton going to LA in the morning!?"
"Yeah, I think, actually I better check!" Brooke replied as she danced off to ding Peyton. Haley smiled at the party scene and smiled.
"What you smiling at?" She asked her, she looked up at him "Just how much my life has changed since starting school to now" Nathan nodded "You going to Stanford then?" Haley nodded "Yeah, got my scholarship letter last week, congratulations on duke, Nathan you deserve it."
There was an awkward silence. "You were right you know." Nathan said finally making eye contact with Haley "You made the right decision by the way. " Haley looked at him confused. "About saying no to marring me. I mean our lives would be so different. We could have be divorced by now. Like could you imagine being divorced before leaving high school." Nathan said with forced laughter. Haley had a weak smile on her face
"I dunno, sometimes I think my life would be better if I said yes" she admitted only for Nathan to respond "Maybe but I doubt it." Haley was about to say something when Nathan started " Well I've got to go finishing packing for Duke. Off to Europe for the summer with my dad. Take care Hales, you'll do great in Stanford" and with that Nathan left.

"Hales you okay? You haven't said anything in a while" Nathan said walking down the stairs from her apartment, trying not to trip. "Yeah, sorry, I'm just shocked that you are here, why are you here?" She asked "Oh I was just visiting Lucas and Peyton and I thought I'd drop by." He said. Haley mentally scalded Lucas " You want to come in for some coffee?" She offered which is met by a bidding approval. She slowly walks up the stairs with Zeus in tow as she tries to find her keys. She finally found them and opened her door. "Sorry about the mess" she said as she led him inside.
