Memories

The chill breeze that enters the room makes him shiver. Expectantly he looks up. Waiting for a well known silhouette to arrive in the doorway.

There is just one problem with that. How can someone enter the room when the door hasn't opened?

Turning on his other side again, he pulls the covers tight around him.

The fact that he's alone, that there is nobody coming for him, makes him feel cold. He can't stop shivering, can't stop craving for a familiar warm body behind him. A gentle, steady heartbeat against his back. The rhythmic sound of a breathing he was accustomed to, to lull him to sleep. The cold metal of a golden necklace against his bare shoulder.

A soft voice whispering in his ear. The words never mattered…

The only thing that was important… Bright, warm, close, love, dark, sweet yet bitter, mischievous, dangerous, challenging, unreachable, gracious and defiant.

It all describes one person. A person he needs with him. Right now.

Reaching out with one hand he grabs the teddy bear standing next to his bed. A black bear. A parting gift. Once. Long ago. Years it has been used. Through the entire war. Even though he has been angry, sad, hurt, furious because of his betrayal. He has never been able to say goodbye. He couldn't part with the little bit of hope that was easily crushed by all the evidence.

Gently he cradles the plushy against his chest. There where his heart beats. It has always beaten for him. It will always beat for him. No matter what happened. No matter what will happen.

AaAaA

Amber eyes flutter open when gentle fingers run through his hair.

Another illusion? Another hope to be crushed?

The bed shifts slightly and he curses his dream to be so vivid. Eyes shut close tightly.

Strong arms hold him close against a warm body. A comforting heartbeat that falls in rhythm with his own.

"Sorry to have kept you waiting."

The same words that were whispered to him every night again. Words that in the morning revealed nothing.

"I love you…"

Words that send shivers down his spine still. After all the years together. After all the years apart/separated.

"Forgive me…"

Shocked he turns around. Arms that don't loosen their hold. The teddy bear cradled in between. Grey eyes look at him. Hopeful. Fearful.

He can say nothing in return. There are no words needed anyway. There have never been much words needed between the two of them.

Lips meet. Gently. Exploring. Familiar touch that has to be revived.

Hands tracing well known patterns on skin known as well as their own.

"You came…" And you will go again…

Remus' voice is hoarse and he shivers again when the other runs a hand over his spine.

"I'm here to stay…" If you want me to…

A hand reaches out. Hesitantly caressing a cheek before him.

"Don't leave me… Sirius…"

A gently smile. A promise.

"Never again…" Unless you want me to…

And this time, when he wakes in the morning, the warmth and the arms are still there. Their bodies still entwined. And when grey meets amber, past and future no longer matter. Their present is enough…
