The wailing of the sirens strained his ears. The boy looked up at his mentor, "Batman, what's happening?" The masked ma, never taking his eyes off the screen in front of him furrowed his eyebrows.
"There's some sort of gas leak in the building." He looked down and saw the boy's worried expression, "we should be safe in here." Robin let out a sigh. The older man muttered to himself, "for now…"
Robin looked up, with hope in his eyes, "So you can stop it though, right, Batman?"
The Dark knight stayed silent for a while. He took in a deep breath, and turned to the boy. He put on his most reassuring smile. "You bet!" Robin returned his grin. He knew Batman would never let him down! A new energy filled the Batman.
"Yes, of course, Robin!" He exclaimed, "If I just reversed the flow of air and created a vacuum then… Robin I need you to do something!"
"Sir?" Robin asked jumping up, eager to help.
"Put on the gas mask, and check outside to make sure that the generator is functioning. I should join you shortly after!"
"Sure thing, sir!" Robin beamed, "I'll text you if it's working" Robin put on the mask and ran out with a little skip in his step. Bruce watched him with sad eyes. He then turned around and waited for the poison gases to slowly leak into the room. A small tear flowed down his face. "Goodbye, my morning bird."
Robin stood outside waiting. Any second now Batman would come strolling out, and they could go home, and he could make his famous homemade waffles.
Half an hour passes and Robin began to worry. He decided to go back in the house to make sure Mr. Wayne didn't fall asleep or something. He put on his mask, and went into the house. He made his way into the room where they started, and was shocked with the sight of his Dark Knight writhing on the floor and coughing.
Without forethought Robin ran over to him, and put his mask over the older man's face. Bruce Wayne's eyes grew wide as he tried to push the small boy away, but he was weak, and eventually the boy succeeded. Bruce was too weak to stand, and all he could do was wrap his arms around the small boy who lay his head on his chest. Robin looked up and opened his mouth, "Batman I…" Before he could finish his sentence, his eyes closed shut, and he fell into eternal sleep.
