The Hogwarts Library was breathtaking. At least it was breathtaking for bookworms. And though Minerva could gaze and softly finger the books surrounding her, take in the welcoming crisp smell of parchment, and flip gently through the worn pages around her, she was being graded on her essay in History of Magic, not on her essay on her love of the Hogwarts Library.
So determinedly, she walked through the shelves of the books in the History of Magic section, ignoring the beckoning titles of the much more interesting books in the Transfiguration section –which were right next to her. She had become so absorbed in finding a book on the Goblin Wars, she hadn't notice anyone else join her.
'Let's see- wait, what was that?' Minerva paused in her search when she saw a black book without a title, with a red flower on the front. A flower she had seen before, but didn't know where. Thinking it belonged in the Herbology section, her fingers touched the book carefully, and gently wrapped around it as she reached up on her tip toes to grab it –it was on the sixth shelf, and it was close enough that using magic was pointless.
"Achillea Millefolia" Tom Riddle's voice was soft, and right next to her. She nearly dropped the book in shock –and would have been scolded rather painfully from Madam Pince for days- turning to him.
"Riddle!" She hissed quietly, despising him for surprising her and for nearly getting her in trouble.
"You know for a Gryffindor, you hiss like a Snake." He said , easily reaching the book and getting it for her. He handed it to Minerva, and she clutched it protectively to her chest, glaring slightly at him.
"Achillea Millefolia" He whispered again, quietly to himself.
"And it means what precisely?" Minerva found herself asking.
"Surely someone as smart as you," He said pausing as he noticed a blush slightly appearing on her cheeks. Nonetheless, he continued on smirking. "Would know that Achillea Millefolia is a flower that means war."
"I didn't know you garden Tom." She said, smiling slightly at the anger that suddenly showed in his eyes, and was just as quickly gone, at his unique name.
"I don't." He said sharply. She turned away from him, wandlessly levitating the correct book she wanted off the shelf it was from, and it trailed behind her as she walked out of the History of Magic section. She had no idea of the emotions his eyes had shown at her wandless magic, but a shiver did go down her back as she walked away.
Tom quickly left the library, but not before conjuring the exact flower they had both been thinking of to appear in front of Minerva. The last words he heard before the doors closed behind him, were softly whispered, yet not gently intended.
"Achillea Millefolia, Tom."
So how was that? My first attempt at Tom/Minerva (though it wasn't at all Romance). Reviews are in fact appreciated
