A sequel to a Run Through Central Park.

Office of Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter

Jack watched from the doorway as his assistant took a bite of what appeared to be a wholegrain salad sandwich.

An amused smile crept up on the older man's face. "Trying to eat healthy, hey Mike?" he enquired jokingly.

Mike glanced up at him with a bemused expression, finding it difficult to retort back at him, his mouth full of food.

Jack entered, taking a seat opposite his desk.

"My doctor told me I need to watch my cholesterol," Mike told him. "And my blood-pressure. I also hope to be playing centrefield this season, and to do that, I need to cut back on my starch intake."

Meh, new-age health freaks.

"I tried to eating healthy once," Jack said, crossing his legs casually. "But it was really more under the advisement of my then assistant, Claire."

Mike's lips curled up into a mischievous smile. "Trying to impress the ladies, Jack, that doesn't surprise me," he joked.

Jack's expression turned wistful, as he gazed out of the window. "Claire had great knowledge about those sorts of things, keeping healthy, looking after yourself," he said, his voice trailing, taking little notice of Mike's cheep quip. His mind was fully focused on the most beautiful woman he had ever known. "You know, whenever I see joggers in the park, I can't help but think of her." He reflected back on a sunny afternoon during the June of 1996. "She always used to go for a run when the stress of the job was getting to her. She said it cleared her head."

"Good for the body, good for the mind," Mike said. "All those endorphins, I suppose."

There was a silent pause for a moment.

Mike reached into his drawer, and pulled out a red, shining apple, before placing it on the surface of his desk. "Want to split it with me Jack?" he offered. "For Claire?"

Jack stood from his chair. "Na, you have it Mike," he replied with a reflective sigh. He made his way slowly towards the door. "I haven't eaten a piece of fruit since the cantaloupe incident." He lingered in the doorway, glancing back at the EADA. "And don't even get me started on the debacle involving the grapes!"

The end.
