This was written for a Valentine's Day Character Mashup thing at NovelNovice. :) It had to be 500 words or less, hence why this isn't too descriptive and all -500 words is so short! Anyways, I LOVED writing this for the contest. What would happen if Rose Hathaway and Jace Wayland met? Hmm?
The girl crept through the alley with lithe grace, darting between the shadows to remain invisible to the Strigoi.
A dull thud. Her attention snapped to the street. The vampire was motionless on and no evidence of the slayer or his weapons littered the ground.
Rose slunk farther into the lane, alert to everything around her. A lamp flickered feebly like a candle about to be extinguished.
A shape darted into her peripheral vision and she searched for her opponent. This place was void of people. Deserted shops lined the road. One of the building's creaky door sang out in a screechy voice and swayed.
She slid into the building, gaping as an iridescent orb of light blinded her.
"What the-"
A hand clamped over her mouth and she was slammed into the rough wall. Warm blood seeped into her dark hair.
The strange glow illuminated an unfamiliar boy. Tousled gold hair as if the sun's rays had been trapped in the strands. Eyes the same golden hue. Tanned skin etched with strange black tattoos. A conceited smirk that revealed perfect, white teeth.
The man's other hand cupped her face firmly. His legs pinned her to the wall, making her own legs immobile. Fireworks exploded across her skin at the closeness. The warmth flowing through her body left her feeling dizzy and groggy.
"What are you, little girl?" He hissed.
One bite to the hand gave her enough leverage to snake out of his grasp and restrain him, her stake digging into his chest.
A soft curse rumbled through his mouth.
"I'm not one of the bad guys," She answered, not willing to go into all of the details. Her grip loosened on him as she backed away. "I slaughter the bad guys, the immortal ones."
"You don't look the type. Can you wield a weapon? I think that job should be left to the real fighters," He drawled, arrogance lacing his words.
"Modest much? I disarmed you, after all."
"I wasn't prepared."
She shook her head in disbelief, a smile playing on her lips.
In a flash, he had pushed up against the wall. His lips found hers in a feverish kiss, his fingers knotted in her bloody hair.
"You are good, I admit. I can teach you things. More than simply fighting." He paused. "Help me battle the demons of this mundane world?"
"First, what's your name, stranger?"
"You don't know? And I was under the assumption everybody knew me." He gawked smugly. "Jace. Jace Wayland. "
"Rose Hathaway." She paused. "I'd love to..."
"But?"
"I need contemplate this when I'm not at the risk of a concussion."
He sucked in a breath when he noticed the damage to her head.
"I haven't brought a girl to the Institution in ages," He mused in amusement. "I know people who can help. Let's go."
Jace draped his arm around her shoulders. He stole a quick kiss before guiding her out of the building, not sure of what their future held.
