Truer Words Have Never Been Spoken
Ron pushed the door open, allowing his daughter to run into her favourite shop before him. How he'd pulled bookshop duty, while Hermione was taking Hugo to Quality Quidditch Supplies, he had no idea.
He thought it might have something to do with Rose's puppy dog eyes.
He really couldn't ever say no to her when she looked at him like that. Along with her love for the written word, that was another thing she'd got from her mother.
He walked behind her as she flitted from aisle to aisle, oohing over the many new books Flourish and Blotts had in since their last visit.
He took the books that she picked out, smiling indulgently at her when she stood with one in each hand, conflicted over which one to get.
"Why don't you just get both, baby?" he asked, bending slightly so she could place both books onto the growing pile in his arms. "It'll save us a return trip in the next few days."
She giggled, and continued on her way, picking up another book as she did.
"Rosie, these books are getting a little heavy. I think you have enough to last you at least a week."
"Daddy," she admonished, her hands on her hips. "Books have to be heavy! The whole world's inside them."
"Is that right?" he asked, amused despite himself. "Well, how about we go spend daddy's money on these and then I'll take you for ice cream, while we wait for your mum and Hugo?"
She nodded eagerly. "The strawberry one with the chocolate and the nuts and the wafers?"
He grinned. That sounded pretty good to him. "Whatever you want, sweetheart."
When they reached the counter, Ron wasn't surprised in the slightest that the man behind the counter recognised Rose immediately.
"You got roped into shopping today, then Sir?" he asked, bagging the books. "You know, young lady, your mother never lets you get this many in one trip."
Rose grinned. "I know. But Daddy doesn't say no to me."
Ron sighed, signing the slip that would take the money from his account. Truer words have never been spoken.
"Come on, Rosie. Ice Cream."
