A/N: I found a wooden statue the other day that looked almost exactly the same as the one that Heather bought for Brian and Jackie and it made me wonder what Jackie's reaction to it had been (especially as Michael seemed to think she wouldn't like it). So this is my answer, it's a bit short but I hope you enjoy it :)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
The Statue
When she first saw it she hated it.
It wasn't so much that it was hideously ugly (which it was) but what she really hated about it was that it obviously hadn't been bought by Michael, Robbie or Stuart. The fact that none of her closest friends had bothered to buy the damn thing had rankled for some reason.
But for that very reason she had resolved to hide it in a back room, out of sight of both visitors and herself.
Yet, after the divorce, she found herself unable to part with it.
Regardless of its origin it was the last thing she had ever received from Michael. Something that served as a reminder of happier times: a reminder of him.
After his death she had found herself becoming more and more sentimental about things like that. She even found herself associating her clothing with times she'd spent with him and she had never been able to wear the outfit she had worn to Langbank again.
Yet she was unable to part with that either.
Her chaining herself to his memory was part of the reason that her marriage broke down and why she never really formed any other serious attachments. He had been the most important person in her life for so long that she didn't know what to do when she suddenly found herself without him.
Why she clung to everything that she had left of him.
So that was how she found herself giving the statue pride of place in her living room, where she could see it and remember.
Because her memories had become the one thing she could never lose.
