"Doctor!" Amy shouted from the top of the stairs surrounding the TARDIS control room. The TARDIS had lurched unexpectedly, throwing her and Rory away from the staircase. "What's going on!"
The low, familiar, grinding noise filled the room as the uppy-downy things started going… up and down. "I don't know! The Doctor shouted over the noise, holding onto the railing around the consol. "The TARDIS is flying herself! I don't know why!"
The TARDIS stopped abruptly. "Where- when too, I guess- are we?" Rory cautiously followed Amy down the steps.
"Gallifrey." The Doctor stated simply, not needing to check the monitor due to his three extra senses.
"When?" Amy stepped around the consol to beside The Doctor.
"No time. Gallifrey is timeless, all the time traveling we do, not to mention the fact that we're immortal- well, kind of- made time irrelevant. There are no dates, no calendar, no… nothing."
"Wait, you're immortal?"
"Long story. The question is, why did the TARDIS bring us here?" The Doctor said.
"Well, let's go find out!" Amy stepped out the TARDIS door, followed quickly be an alarmed Doctor and a hesitant Rory. "Wait, who's he?"
Amy pointed to a terrified looking boy, about eight or nine, running. His pale blond hair fell into his eyes as he sprinted across the orange and red fields. She began to give chase, but the Doctor caught her by the shoulders and pulled her back. "He's me. If he sees us, the universe MIGHT just explode."
"Why're you so scared? What's happening? I understand why he can't see you, but why can't I go comfort him? Besides, what happened to the old 'screw the rules if there's children crying' regime?" Amy fought the Doctor, who eventually let her go. She stumbled a few steps, then brushed herself off.
"Initiation. He just stared into the unhampered schism, and saw the raw power of time and space. And a vision of the last great time war, of Gallifrey burning. Anyone would be terrified."
"Poor kid."
"Yeah, but I'll be alright. Watch, there'll be a mad man with insane hair and a weird tie, in just a second."
"Doctor." Rory gave him a pointed look.
"Oh. Right. Be right back." The Doctor took off across the Gallifreyan plain, chasing his younger self. "Why do I have to be so bloody fast?" he muttered to himself. When he caught up to the child, he intersected him, grabbing himself in his arms. "S'alright, Theta. You're safe. None of it was real. It was just-" his voice caught. "Just a vision."
Young Theta Sigma jumped back, looking like a deer caught in headlights. "Who are you? You don't know anything. Gallifrey will burn, and I won't be able to do anything."
The Doctor crouched down to look his younger self in the eye. "No, you're wrong. Gallifrey won't burn. It'll all be fine."
"You're lying."
The Doctor sighed. He couldn't bring himself to lie to his younger self any longer. "You'll be okay. It'll all work out, in the end. Now, come on. Let's get you back to the citydale."
He stood up and put a hand on Theta's shoulder, and they began the long trek back. When they got there, they were greeted by two guards. "Hello, I'm the Doctor, and I was just taking young Theta Sigma here back home. Don't mind me." He walked a few yards in, and turned and crouched down to face his younger self. "This is where I leave you. I trust you to go straight home, and not do anything foolish, kay?"
"Uh- yes sir. I like your name, by the way."
"Thanks." The Doctor smiled and turned to walk away.
"Sir?"
"Yes?"
"What's that around your neck?"
"It's called a bow-tie. Bow-ties are cool." He winked, turned, and walked away.
Awe… :) Bow-ties ARE cool. Reviews = love!
