Catherine held Sara to her as she slept. She'd been doing that a lot lately. Catherine ran her fingers through her lover's chocolate locks as she watched her doze peacefully in her lap. Sara had her head in Catherine's lap and her arms around her love's waist. Sara's forehead lightly touched Catherine's bare stomach as she gasped at the sudden heat.
"Sara, baby." Catherine whispered as she halted her hand and rested it on her waist. "Sara." Catherine gently woke Sara from her slumber and smiled worriedly down at her sweetheart.
"Hi."
"Hey."
"Are you okay, baby?" Catherine whispered after she pressed a soft kiss to her temple.
"I'm fine." Sara sighed as she snuggled closer to Catherine.
"You're burning up sweetie." Catherine gently pressed her hand to Sara's forehead to prove her point.
"I feel fine, Cath." Sara sat up and sat next to her love, resting her hand on her thigh and squeezed. "Honestly Cath, I feel fine."
Catherine grabbed her hand. "Are you sure sweetie?"
"Yes Cath." Sara sighed, stood and went to the kitchen and started making a cup of coffee. After a moment, Catherine followed her into the kitchen and wrapped her arms around Sara's waist. A tear trickled down Sara's cheek and splashed on Catherine's arms.
"Sara baby, what's wrong?"
Sara quickly wiped her eyes, "Nothing, Cath. I'm fine."
Catherine turned Sara around in her arms and warmly embraced her. "Talk to me honey. Please." Catherine whispered to the gorgeous woman in her arms. When Sara stayed silent, Catherine put her lover gently at arms length and gazed into those beautiful brown orbs that had captivated her from the very first time they met. "Sara, I'm here for you. It's going to take a hell of a lot me more than you being sick to get rid of me Sara." Catherine cupped Sara's face and brushed her lips gently against hers. "I love you baby."
"I love you too Cath." Sara pressed her lips lightly to Catherine's, hoping she would forget about their conversation on her health.
"Let's get you into bed, baby." Catherine whispered as she broke the kiss.
"I feel fine, Cath."
"That maybe, but I don't want to take any chances. You go and get comfy and I'll bring you a coffee."
Nodding, Sara reluctantly headed off to the warm bedroom, dragging her feet.
Ten minutes later, Catherine handed her a mug of steaming liquid and crawled beneath the sheets to join her love. Sara rested her head on Catherine's shoulder as she placed the hot pink mug on the bedside table. Catherine wrapped an arm around her waist and held her close.
"Rest sweetheart, I'll be here when you wake up.
"Don't leave."
"I promise." The pair engaged in a heated kiss before they settled down to rest. Catherine held Sara as she slept.
Over the course of the next week, Catherine was Sara's nurse. The week after ... it was Sara's turn.
