Its taken 1 year, 20 emotional meltdowns, 15 arguments and 6 dress fittings to get to this day; My wedding day. Today I will become Mrs Rachel Lawson. I'm sitting here looking in the mirror at my made-up face and beautiful new hairdo just longing to be Mrs Lawson. I didn't want a wedding, I just wanted to be Eddie's wife, nothing could ever make me happier. "Are you ready to get your dress on?" asked Phillip peeping his head around my bedroom door. "Yes. yes I am." I pull my dress out of my wardrobe, unzip the back, lay it on the floor and then step into it. "Phillip! I need you to help me zip the back up!" I shout down the stairs. Phillip does his silly little run up the stairs and zips the back of my dress up and hands me my bouquet of a dozen red roses. "Auntie you look beautiful, Eddie is lucky to have you." I turn around and look at myself in my full length mirror, a tear is brought to my eye, I look just like my mother on her wedding day. My dress is a slim fitting, champagne coloured lace dress with a very small train. I wore the choker necklace that my mum gave to me in her will, the one she wore when she married my dad. I can't believe that neither of my parents are here to see me get married to the man I love, at least I have my nephew Phillip. "The car is here, are you ready?" said Phillip who is standing at my bedroom door. My stomach suddenly fills with butterflies and I feel a lump in my throat. I slowly start to make my way downstairs, my bouquet in one hand and my dress in the other. I look up to see Ros standing in my hallway in a beautiful light pink bridesmaids dress, she has a tear rolling down her cheek. I pause at my front door and take a deep breath before stepping out and walking towards the car. The driver of the car, a middle aged man with a greying beard opens the door for me. I slide myself into the car and Ros and Phillip make their way round to the other door. The drive to the church felt like it took a year but it suddenly all felt real when we pulled up outside the church. The church is a beautiful tall building with a spiral. There are flowers everywhere and birds singing. The butterflies and the lump in my throat came racing back and worse than ever. The driver opened the door and Phillip put his hand out for me. The fresh air hit me like a brick but at least it calmed me down. Phillip walked me to the front door of the church, I heard the roar of the organ as it started to play the wedding march. The big brown wooden doors swung open to reveal the inside of the church. I looked around to see my friends and family and work colleges but no one made me happier than seeing Eddie fighting back the tears at the altar. He is my world.
