AN: So this is kind of a one shot, but at some point I might write other stories in this same whoniverse. It starts off maybe a year or two after Journey's End. Happy hunting.

It started with a ring. Just a small, unassuming thing. Elegant in its simplicity. They'd found it among John's things, along with a note that simply said 'for Rose'. So she put it on and wore it always. It wasn't for another week that she realized something was odd. Her mum had left her alone for the first time since the funeral. She got up and had a shower, then decided to do the dishes. She tried to take off her ring and found that she couldn't. It literally wouldn't move a millimeter. She twisted it, and instantly it changed from silver to gold with an eery yet comforting glow, and her fingers began to tingle. Thirty seconds later, Rose Tyler found herself five thousand years in the future in the markets of Chairook.

She jumped five more times in the next two hours. It was on the third jump that she spotted the Doctor, her second doctor in his red trainers and pinstripe suit. He was on the stage at an ACDC concert. She shouted his name and struggled towards him, but it was to crowded for her to make any progress, to loud for him to hear her calling for him, and before she knew it, she'd jumped again.

Four hours later she'd discovered that anything she was touching would come with her, if it was smaller than her and weighed less than her. On her next jump she found herself in a department store. She grabbed things for three multi-purpose outfits and a backpack before rushing into a dressing room, pulling off the tags, and stuffing the clothes into her backpack. Through the rest of the day, she nicked anything that could be useful. At the end of it all, she had pretty much everything she'd need to survive in most climates.

After she found herself staying put for a few hours in 1987 America, she began looking for a hotel. She found one quickly, on her way passing a strange looking man playing the recorder. She checked in with some of her stolen money and slept with one hand grasping her backpack, but she didn't jump again until she woke up.

She continued to jump from place to place, never finding a home, helping where she could. She saw the Doctor many more times, but no matter what she did, how hard she tried, she could never get close enough to touch him or speak to him. It was nearly six months later that she realized that she wasn't just traveling in time and space, but also through different universes.

It was ten years later that she knew for sure that she was immortal, having not visibly aged since the day she first found herself in the markets of Chairook, five thousand years and many more miles from her home in London. Forty years after that, she spoke to the Doctor for the first time since he'd left her and John on Darlig Ulv Stranden.

Update: Just posted the first chapter of a new story, -, that picks up approximately where this ends.
