"Merry Christmas newsies!" I shouted entering the lodging house. I had a bag of presents for the boys. I handed a present to Mush. He opened it and pulled out new shoes.
"A pair of new shoes wid matchin' laces!" he yelled, "Tanks Lily!"
I handed an envelope to Racetrack.
"Mush gets a box and I get an envelope?" Racetrack asked.
"Just open it Race", I said.
"Is dis…?" he asked.
"Yes Race. It's a pass for your own permanent box down at Sheepshed Bay", I said, "And Spot, your present is currently sitting in your room".
"Lil, youse didn'", Spot said.
"Yep, you'll be able to take baths everyday now", I said, "And Blink, daddy has arranged for us to go on a date on Saturday. You even get to wear a nice outfit and everything". I handed Boots a box. "Sorry, but it's not fitted. I can arrange for it to be", I said. I handed Jack an envelope.
"Two tickets ta anywhere?" Jack asked.
"I figured you could use them when you finally marry a girl", I teased.
"Funny Lily", he teased.
"Les, I got two tickets for you and David to see the flickers", I said.
"Gee thanks Lily!" Les said hugging my waist.
I handed Snipeshooter a box.
"Wow, 10 Havana cigahs", Snipeshooter said.
"Now, you can stop tryin' ta steal Racetrack's", I said, "And last…David. I pulled some strings and you're now an apprentice to Denton. He said you could still sell your papes and then come in when you're done".
"Tanks babe", Kid Blink said kissing me, "Youse jist made dis da best newsie Christmas evah".
"Well, I'm glad the guys could be happy for at least one day of the year", I said.
