What the f*** am I thinking. Read a bunch of suicidal hitachiin fics so here I go

"AAAAAAAAAAAA!"

"KAORU!"

Kaoru Hitachiin snapped upright, the blankets falling to the floor. It was two o'clock in the morning, and he had just experienced a nightmare.

"KAORU!" Hikaru repeated, lunging forward and latching onto his brother. "Kaoru, are you okay?!"

The younger twin choked. Tears began to pour from his wide eyes. "Hik-ka–" he hiccuped, "–ru..."

"Shh! I'm here, Kao, I'm here!" Hikaru wrapped his arms around his brother, fiercely rubbing his other half's shuddering back. "It's okay, you're going to be fine..."

"I d-dreamed about us!" Kaoru sobbed, burrowing his head into his brother's shoulder. "I-it was back in m-middle scho-ol, and we were s-so depressed we k-killed ourselves!" He burst into fresh tears.

Hikaru's eyes widened. "Kaoru, it's okay! We're past that! We're okay! Aren't we?" He trailed off, studying his shaking twin. "Do you...still feel that way?"

"N-no." Kaoru, incredibly, cracked a grin. It was strained, but Hikaru could see a hint of amusement in his little brother's eyes. "I-it's just, in my dream, when they found us, they couldn't tell us apart, a-and we were buried under the wrong headstones!" He tried to laugh, but he ended up choking, tears spilling forth again. "Hehe, get it? Ever after we d-died, people would still play the Which-One-is-Hikaru Game!"

Hikaru stared at him. "Kao, sometimes I worry about you."

"You worry about me?" Kaoru hiccuped. "I thought I was the responsible one!"

"Not when you're crying," Hikaru teased, mussing up his twin's hair.

Kaoru sniffled, managing a real smile.

Hikaru smirked. "How about this: once we turn eighteen, let's get tattoos of our names somewhere hidden. Just in case."

Kaoru burst out laughing. "Thanks, Hika. I can sleep in peace now."

"You better," Hikaru growled good-naturally, pulling the blankets back up. "We've got a test tomor– I mean today."

Kaoru was still giggling. "Maybe they'd have to get Haruhi to identify us."

"Argh! Morbid! Go. To. Sleep!" Hikaru grabbed his twin and yanked him under the blankets. A brief wrestling match ensued, resulting in a quick win by Hikaru because Kaoru was too busy trying to wipe his eyes.

"Goodnight, Kaoru." Hikaru mocked, raising an eyebrow.

"Night..." Kaoru sighed, already half asleep.

No more nightmares interrupted that night.
