Authors note: A poem from Grantaires point of view. The last three parts takes place when he and Enjolras is going to be shot.

Orestes and Pylades dead

Your life is red as burning blood

My life is black as darkness

I'm like a child who's lost in the woods

To you I am always defenceless

You may believe I cannot feel

I assure you, it isn't the truth

The world could be flat or as round as a wheel

I am lost, I am dead in my youth

I know I can't have you, but please let me dream

I know you will always despise me

I tell you that nothing is quite what it seems

I am chained, but I don't want to flee

A world without loving is no world at all

A town without mirth is deserted

You don't seem to think, all you want is a brawl

-You won't stop 'til the world is converted

And where does that put me? I'll follow, but still

I don't want death, I've been there, I've done it

And the world will go on as it always will

If you fight it won't change things a bit

So where are we now? Nothing has changed

Only dust's left of what you thought true

Our lives have no meaning, our death's been arranged

But still... I believe in you

You listen, finally listen to me

We smile and I know we'll both die

You look through my eyes and my life seize to be

No more pain now, it's just you and I

Your life was red as burning blood

My life was black as darkness

At the end we are lost in these darkening woods

Together at last in forgiveness
