A/N: I never got to have a Christmas story for this, so I wanted to do a New Year's one-shot for it and it's my first Switch fic….Sorry if it sounds rushed, I wanted it done by New Year's Eve or New Year's Day and I wrote it at work as well.

Kai Eto stood in a corner of the apartment talking to some co-workers. The young cop laughed as one made a joke. His reddish brown eyes drifted to the balcony door. Those vibrant eyes stared at a blond young man wearing thin rimmed glasses and he stood there smoking.

Hal Kurabayashi…

He was Kai's partner and recently the rookie has been having some mixed feelings about the other. They are friends, but these feelings to him are more than friendly, but Kai wasn't the only one eyeing someone they liked.

From the refreshment table eyes which belonged to the beautiful analyst, Mari Kuzui, the one staring at Kai. She loves cute and small things, therefore Kai was the object of her affection.

'Okay…Tonight I will do it.' she thought.

It was New Year's Eve and Mari thought this would work out best, since the other attempts to catch Kai failed. Not this time.

"Kai." said Masataka Hiki. "Kai."

"Huh?" he shook his head. "Sorry I was caught in thought."

"Anyone in particular you were eyeing? Say a handsome bl…" started the other, but was practically tackled by Kai.

"Quiet…" Kai said.

"Mmph." said Hiki.

"Please don't say anything." he whispered.

"Mmph." Hiki tried to talk.

"What? Oh sorry." he let go.

Everyone from the office was there and only an hour left to go till midnight came. Mari applied some lipstick and a drunken Keigo Kajiyama was hanging on Hiki now after the man walked away from Kai.

"I luf you." Keigo slurred his words. "I real…y luf you."

"Now Kajiyama…" Hiki started to whisper in his ear. "I thought we were keeping our relationship hush hush."

Kaji was quiet for a moment and spoke. :Well, I'm drunk, so, they won't know." he removed himself from his secret lover and went to show he wasn't sleeping with Hiki.

Hal groaned. "What?"

"I luf you." Kaji said.

"Go cling to your lover." he shot back.

Kaji's eyes widened. "How did you know?"

"I saw you two going at it on his desk…" Hal paused. "I never knew you'd be the uke."

The older man let go of the blond. "Don't tell anyone."

"Stay off me and I won't." he replied.

"Ten minutes to go." announced Masami Ibu.

'I can do this. Once I kiss Hal I'll know.' thought Kai as he made his way to Hal.

Mari lost sight of Kai, but soon found him talking to his partner. She heard everyone do a countdown.

"5...4...3..." they shouted.

"Hal." started Kai.

"2...1...Happy New Year." they cheered.

Kai wrapped his arms around Hal and kissed him. "I love you…I fell in love."

The blond placed his hands on Kai's hips. "What took you long…Good for nothing." Hal kissed back. "I've been in love with you for months." he whispered in his ear.

Mari stood frozen in place. Her chance to tell Kai had been taken away by his partner.

"Happy New year, Hal." smiled Kai.

"Happy New Year, good for nothing." Hal said.
