Whall was bored. The Calders had finally stopped attacking Orothe, the Dark Twins had been pushed back to the Core by Yaki and his rebel band of Magi, the war for paradise had long since been won, and his training with Koll had come to an end. He hadn't realized how boring things could get without someone breathing down your neck all the time. As an Abaquist lazily swam by, he absent-mindedly waved his hands at it, morphing the tiny jellyfish into a massive Karak. As if not realizing the change, the dream creature just continued swimming, bobbing lightly in the undersea current.

"Oh, man. What am I doing? There's gotta be something more interesting than this to do." He had often wondered what lay in the rift, the deepest portion of the Deeps of Orothe. Wonder if anyone'd be willing to come with me. Maybe we can stir up a little adventure. Swimming back home, he found Orlon and Quilla lovingly drifting along with each other, Blu was screaming at Ebylon, once again lecturing him on the value of relics and the sheer difficulty of rebuilding them, and O'Qua was debating something about the nature of Cawh's with Karse.

"Hey Whall!" A bright, skippy voice rang clear through the water. Not her. Anyone but her… Sure enough, he turned around to see Orthea barreling at him at break-neck speed. Ever since her need to carry the Voice of the Storms had ended, she had rapidly reverted back to her original self. Dodging at just the right second, Whall managed to sidestep her, and she went whizzing past him, nearly crashing into Blu. "Heheh, sorry…"

"So, what have you been up to lately, Shaper? I've seen a lot of Karak's around. You wouldn't happen to have anything to do with that, would you?" Having twisted the abaquists into karaks had been an absent-minded waste of time, and he just realized that he'd been doing it. "Maybe… hey, Orthea, I'm kinda busy, looking for someone to come with me to the-" Whall realized too late he'd said way too much.

"To where? Can I come? I think I've proven myself in the past few months."

"Well, I'm heading to the rift, so I didn't think you'd be interested."

"What do you mean I wouldn't be interested? I'd love to go! Who else is coming?"

"I- what?- no, you don't-that's not…"

Already, Orthea had recruited Ebylon and Karse, who were both happy to leave their conversations with the older Orotheans. "Thanks for the plan Whall. Got me out of another lecture."

"Yeah, and besides, I think I know how my baby behaves. What's O'Qua know about Cawhs anyway?"

Whall was suddenly overwhelmed. He had asked for a cure to his boredom and he had gotten it. But he wondered if any of them could take this trip seriously. Hoping to the Eliwan that they wouldn't make his life miserable, Whall relayed his plan to explore the rift, and the little group set off.

But more than megathans lie in the rift… What dangers might lie ahead for our heroes?
