Drifting…

Whose point of view is Drifting from? Drifting is a poem from the point of view of a second-class young woman who is running away from her family's expectations. The poem doesn't hint to this, but I wrote the poem with this in my mind.

What those expectations are isn't clear to me.

What is Drifting about?

Drifting is a poem about a woman who has physic dreams that slowly grow clearer to show her that the ship will sink.

She is believed too late.

Why did you write Drifting?

I actually wrote drifting for a writing contest at the local public library. I was writing a different story-not a poem-but I lost the thread of the story, I had already entered the contest, and I had just read a book on the Titanic, so I just started… writing.

When and where did you write Drifting?

I was eleven in the summer of 2010. Drifting was actually written forty minutes before I was supposed to go to the airport and take a plane home to Michigan for a month. I was hand copying the final draft as the car was being loaded. I was at home in Mount Vernon, WA.
