Wil and Eretria stood at the gates to the garden. The sun was setting and the garden was empty. Ander had made sure of it. He knew that Wil would need the privacy to do what he was going to do.

*Thank you for all the reviews. However, I have since developed as a writer and I have decided to rewrite the story. I will leave the first chapter up for now, but shall replace it in the future. ^-^ *

It had been a year since the search for the bloodfire and the rebirth of the Ellcrys. The Ellcrys, to Wil, would always be Amberle no matter what. He and Eretria started the short walk to the beautiful tree. Wil watched as she came into view. A million thoughts of the journey he had made flowed through his head. He missed the red haired elf. He missed her a lot.

The both of them stopped, just yards away from her silver trunk. Eretria let go of his arm, knowing that she had no part in this. Knowing that Wil had to do this on his own. He looked back at her and forced a smile that was unconvincing.

Wil took a few steps towards the tree. A memory played over and over in his mind, the image of Amberle becoming the Ellcrys. He was only a few feet away from the tree when fear gripped him. He wasn't sure what would happen but he was afraid.

Wil put his hands on the trees silver trunk and felt the warmth of life beneath the bark. Two slender branches then reached down and embraced him. He jumped at their touch. Then images began to flow through his head. Amberle at Havenstead, the King of the Silver River, the reaper, Mallenroh, he experienced again the journey to the Safehold and the search of the bloodfire. The images flooded his mind, now coming faster and faster. His eyes were wide with fear as he remembered the fear of the reaper and he tried to wrench himself away, but the tree held him tightly. The images ended with one word echoing through his mind. Remember. The branches then released their hold on him.

Wil was shocked. He now knew that although Amberle had become the Ellcrys, part of the Ellcrys was still Amberle. That part knew him and did not want him to forget her. He stumbled numbly down from the tree to where Eretria stood. He collapsed into her arms and sobs shook his body while he cried into her shoulder. Eretria held him there well into the night.
