I'm guilty. I fell for the very special spark between Harvey and Donna in a blink. Needless to say, their relationship is so unique and awesome, that my mind couldn't help but write the story I'm sharing with you.
This fic is complete, so I'll be posting updates very often.
Note: This fic has been corrected and certain parts have been rewritten, but it's still un-beta'ed.
To Sarah, for her Donna
To Gabriel, for his Harvey
To you.
Chapter I
Angst in your eyes
Donna's heart sunk the second she received the shocking news. Her breathing became shorter and shorter, and a knot grew hard in her throat while she held the phone against her ear.
She couldn't move.
The sounds of the firm weren't a bother anymore. Everything around her seemed to fade in slow motion. It was as if someone turned the volume down for eternal seconds. She could only hear the voice at the other end of the line delivering the disturbing details.
Holding back the sudden despair that took her over, Donna ended the call with a broken thank you.
She remained in her seat for a few seconds trying to process the news.
She was no longer able to understand the voices coming through the intercom; the conversation Harvey and Mike were having in his office.
She turned it off with shaky hands and left her seat. Her feet took her straight to Harvey's office. She pushed the cold glass door and walked in, interrupting Harvey and Mike's discussion about some evidence on a case.
"Not now, Donna."
Harvey continued his exchange with Mike without looking at her. Mike stood behind the large black couch, bouncing a baseball in one hand; too busy to notice Donna's concern.
Stubbornly, Donna stood in front of Harvey's desk.
She tried hard to hold back her emotions, looking for a way to speak without revealing her distress in front of Mike.
It was too late for subtleness though; both men were looking at her with curiosity.
"Is everything okay?" Harvey frowned.
Seeing the look of grief on her face, Harvey's features suddenly changed.
It was as if they had both connected in an instant.
"What―" Mike looked from Donna to Harvey absolutely perplexed.
They turned to look at him.
"Okay, I get it. I'm leaving," Mike bounced the baseball in his hand one more time before putting it on Harvey's desk. "I'll go to check the documents and will let you know what I find."
Mike walked past Donna, leaving the office completely aware that something serious had happened.
As soon as he left, Donna spoke.
"I don't know how to say this," her voice was shaky. The knot in her throat became unbearable.
"God, Donna." Harvey was expecting the worst. "Just say it."
The moment felt like a nightmare.
Harvey felt as if they were relieving the time when Donna told him that his dad had passed away.
"There has been an accident in Boston," Donna tried to find the right words to speak. "A school bus got off the road and collided against an Amtrak in Massachusetts, there was a derailment…" She paused, tears formed in her eyes. "There were eleven children in the bus; seven are dead. The others are critical."
Harvey looked at Donna trying to sort out the information he had received. It didn't take him more than a second to figure out how the disconcerting situation could affect him. He immediately rose to his feet, facing Donna with horror in his eyes.
"Was―" He swallowed hard.
"They called from the hospital," Donna spoke fast, before her voice could break. "I just―"
"Cancel all the appointments for the weekend." Harvey interrupted her. "Go to your place. I'll pick you there in an hour."

"Donna's apartment, Ray" Harvey got into the back seat of the car with his mind lost in thought.
Fear and regret enveloped him. His gaze fixed on the people walking down the street as the car began to move through the streets of Manhattan. "Then to LaGuardia," He added. "We're flying to Boston."
Ray looked at his boss through the rear view mirror. The driver didn't have to ask. It was all over the news, and Ray knew that Boston only meant one thing. "Yes, Harvey."
When the car arrived to Donna's building, she was already outside, waiting on the street.
She hadn't changed her clothes. Donna was in the same dress she wore at office earlier that day. Her hands were clutching a Hermès handbag tightly ―one of Harvey's presents. She looked beautiful, but as beautiful as she was, her face revealed the anxiety that was biting her from the inside.
She didn't wait for Ray to get out of the car to open the door for her, but immediately did it herself and slipped into the back seat, next to Harvey.
Donna's sweet, familiar perfume invaded the air, giving Harvey a little comfort.
"LaGuardia, Ray." Donna leaning back in the seat, "as fast as you can go on this thing."
She turned to look at Harvey and their eyes met. Only angst could be seen in them.
Love me some angst!
Thanks so much for reading!
