"Hiccup?" Jack called to the person in the small village hut.
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.
"Do you want to train a dragon? Come on let's go any fly, I never see you anymore, let's go and have a soar, it's like you hide away! We used to be best buddies, and now we're not, I wish you could tell me why! Do you want to train a dragon? It doesn't have to be a dragon."
"Go away Jack."
"Okay bye..."
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.
It had been a few days since jack had last knocked. "Do you want to train a dragon? Or fly up high into the sky? I think some company is over do, I've started talking to the sheep up on the hill. Hang in there Fred. It gets a little lonely, all the empty hours, just watching the snowflakes fall."
Hiccup didn't answer.
Jack sighed and flew off to the forest to wander around the already familiar terrain.
Tap, tap, tap.
Jack sighed and called out half-heartedly."Hiccup? Please, I know you're in there. Everyone is asking where you are. They say 'he'll be okay,' and I believe them too. What am I gonna do? Do you want to train a dragon?"
Still no answer.
Jack sat down quietly by the door and put his head in his hands.
Hiccup sat on the side of his bed with his legs swung over the side. His fingers fisted into the blankets as he felt hot tears creep down his cheeks. He reached up and wiped his face.
The door opened and he looked up to find his father with a tray of food. He tried to smile but his lips didn't seem to want to obey.
"Still haven't tried to step?" His father asked.
"Not yet..."
"Well, just try it when you're ready."
Hiccup nodded and watched as his father left. He heaved a sigh and picked at his food until a large head pushed under his arm.
He smiled sadly. "Hey there buddy." He patted Toothless's head.
The dragon opened its mouth and shook it's head. Green eyes looked into his own and the large head lowered to his prosthetic foot. Toothless nudged his leg lightly.
"Not yet, Toothless..."
The dragon made a soft sound of disapproval. With a great leap it was behind him, pushing on his back and forcing him to stand.
Hiccup let out a sharp sound of surprise.
Outside Jack, who had been sitting against the wall by the door, heard this and was on his feet so quickly he made the fresh snow stir in shock. He threw the door open and found Hiccup red cheeked and trying to keep his balance.
Almost immediately blue eyes found the metal foot. He chuckled lightly. "So this is what you've been hiding from me?"
He strode across the room and helped Hiccup to stand, keeping the other's arm over his shoulders and an arm around the brown haired boy's torso.
Hiccup's cheeks turned a brighter pink and he averted his gaze. "I'm sorry, Jack, I-"
Warm lips pressed against his own, effectively silencing him. Jack pulled back seconds later. "Just because you have a prosthetic foot doesn't make me love you any less. Now come on, I found a quiet place in the forest that really beautiful and I want you to see it." With that said, Jack wrapped his arms around Hiccup, making sure the other was secure and comfortable, and took off.
