Summary: "I want you to stay! I love you, Detective Freak!" Ran's words stung Shinichi. But he knew he had to keep her safe, even if it meant breaking her heart. "I don't love you back,"
Conan had taken the temporary antidote. This was the last one, and then his body would be completely immune. "Remember, Kudo-kun," Haibara said. "You only have an hour,"
Shinichi nodded. "I know what I have to do, Haibara,"
He then left the Kudo Mansion, heading to see her. To see Ran. He knocked the door. Ran opened it and her eyes widened at sight of him. "Shinichi!?"
"Ah~ your husband's back, Ran!" Sonoko teased from inside the living room.
"We're not married," Shinichi denied, before returning his attention back to Ran.
"Are you here to stay?" Ran asked, getting her hopes up.
Shinichi's heart clenched. Breaking her hopes would only hurt her more. But he couldn't stay. Not when the Organization was still on the loose. "Ran…"
"Why don't you come inside? I'll make some tea," Ran offered.
"Ran…"
"We can catch up and—"
"Ran!" Shinichi breathed. "I'm not here to stay nor will I ever be!"
Ran fell silent. It was Sonoko who spoke up. "What do you mean by that? Aren't you going to be here for your wife?"
"She's not my wife!" Shinichi snapped.
Ran looked like she was about to cry. "Shinichi…" She wiped the tears away. "I want you to stay! I love you, Detective Freak!"
The words stung Shinichi's heart. But he knew what he had to do. He would rather keep Ran safe, even if it meant breaking her heart. "I don't love you back,"
"Hey! You and Ran have been through so much together! What do you mean that you don't love her!?" Sonoko shouted.
"I only loved her as a sister and friend," Shinichi lied. "You and her has been through so much, yet you two aren't in a relationship, so don't judge me, Suzuki Sonoko,"
"There's someone else…isn't there?" Ran was trying her best to seem strong.
"No, I just didn't find the one yet," Shinichi then looked at his watch. "I gotta get going. Bye Ran," He ran off, not turning back. If he did turn back, he feared the truth would leave his mouth. But as he left, the silent tears fell from Ran's eyes.

Conan was on his bed no—on Shinichi's bed. The lies were eating him up. "I'm working on a case," "I'll comeback someday, Ran," "I don't love you," That was the worse one. He had lied that he didn't love her. "Even if it breaks your heart, Ran…I want you to stay safe…Hate me all you want…Destroy all memory of me…As long as you're safe, I'll be fine,"
That was another lie. Even if she is safe, seeing her in the form of Conan everyday was killing him. He kept telling himself that he'll be fine as long as Ran wasn't targeted by the Organization. That was a lie, but not to Ran. It was a lie to himself. One day it will all come down on him.
After all, there's only one truth.
