Chapter 1 Confessions

D p.o.v I sat by Elena's window thinking over what I was about to do, convincing myself that I shouldn't do it. But then Elena walked in and I was too late to change my mind. "Cute PJ's", I said, looking at her outfit. "I'm tired Damon", she said back. "I brought you this", I said, walking towards her, holding out her vervain necklace she had lost. "I thought it was gone. Thank you." She reached out to grab the necklace but I quickly pulled it away. "Please give it back", Elena said, reaching for it again. I pulled it away again. "I just have to say something." "Why do you have to say it with my necklace", she asked, already knowing the answer to that question. "Because what I'm about to say is... probably the most selfish thing I've ever said in my life." "Damon don't go there." "I just have to say it once. You just need to hear it." She looked at me, worried. I decided to go on with what I came here to do. "I love you Elena. And It's because I love you that I can't be selfish with you. And why you can't know this? I don't deserve you. But my brother does." I leaned in and kissed her forehead, wishing she was mine. But she wasn't and never will be. I knew I had to go through with this and make her forget even though I wanted nothing more than to run away into the sunset with her. But good things like that never happened to me, I didn't deserve them, and definitely didn't deserve her. "God, I wish you didn't have to forget this", I said, stroking her cheek. "But you do", I said looking into her eyes, letting only a single tear escape. Then I disappeared out her window after I had put the necklace back around her neck.

E p.o.v I looked around my room confused. My necklace was back around my neck where it belonged and I had an empty feeling, like I had heard something important to me but I couldn't remember. I sat down on my bed wondering what it was that was so important as to make me feel this way. And how my necklace was back because I was positive that it was gone, beyond getting found. I had seen Elijah pull it off of my neck. 'Maybe sleep would make this feeling go away', I decided, laying down on my bed, drifting to sleep.
