A figure, cloaked in shadow moved silently away from her partners and scaled up the power pipe of the apartment building taking care to avoid weaker areas of the brick she climbed. One foothold she misjudged however and she winced as a loose brick crumbled out of the wall making a tremendous racket on the garbage cans below.
The freeclimbing figure froze as she heard someone inside the building heading to the window. Just as the window opened clouds, on an otherwise clear full moon night, moved and blocked the moonlight plunging the alley into pitch black shadow.
When the person inside couldn't see the figure climbing his building ten feet below in the darkness that had swallowed it he gave up, swearing in Russian about condemned buildings, and closed the window to head back inside. The figure gave a sigh of relief and offered a prayer of thanks to a being her partner had begged her to pray to a couple weeks earlier.
He'd learned about it from one of his fantasy video games and had offered a prayer to the being as a joke, at first. When he escaped detection from three guards, after tripping on a glass bottle, because a raccoon he swore wasn't there before, then he prayed for real.
Three missions, and several bizarre saves, later he was offering a short prayer everytime they had to do a particularly stealth-required objective. He'd even stated saying what was apparently a blessing of his new religion, 'Walk with the shadows' even outside of missions. Just before this mission he'd even managed to get the female figure to say a short prayer with him and now she'd said one all by herself.
Whatever, she'd worry about that later, she was falling behind and had thirty seconds to hit the roof before she was officially late.
Nocturnal grinned a contented smile as another who worked in the shadows acknowledged her. Ordinarily the being was... apathetic to worship, but after millenia with no one even acknowledging her existence it felt nice to be given a nod of thanks. Magic may be all but extinct but she helped as she used to all the same.
