It had been approximately two years that he hasn't seen, or heard from her at all.

Barry wondered if he was to blame for that. Sure, she climbed up her way to victory, success on her fingertips. Whether it be when she reaches over for a Pokéball to release one of her trusted companions, or simply being in a conversation with someone, she seemed to withhold the success in anything. It helped her meet new people, and even become champion of Sinnoh.

It was the fact that Barry was such a damn liar that probably screwed everything up. If there was one thing he was really good at, it was running, and lying. Oh, he's benefited from his lies. From lying to his mother when he was 'sick' so that he could avoid going to trainer's school, to lying to Professor Rowan when he had asked if his Pokémon were doing good (which they weren't, since they weren't warming up to the blond at the time). He had even lied to Dawn herself, in many occasions. All those times when they would bump into each other during their journey, when she offered to catch up, he'd lie to her, saying that he was in a rush, and leave her there alone. Which he wasn't in fact, in a rush. He simply didn't want to waste time on her when he could be using the time to train his Pokémon.

He didn't know it, but his little white lies would eventually bring up consequences.

He lied when she offered to hang out, and he would say he no, because he was in a rush. He lied when his Pokémon questioned him about her. He lied when the gym leaders and elites ask him if she was something towards him, and he would say no. He lied when he said he was going to be there with her during her big events: defeating gym leaders, becoming champion, and even beating his own father at the Battle Frontier, which he wasn't there for. He lied to her throughout the journey in Pokémon training.

He lied to himself as well.

He denied his feeling towards her.

Eventually, Barry's little white lies would come back to haunt him.

No longer did the blond see the bluenette as often as he used to. Despite her champion status, she made sure she made the time to go back to Twinleaf Town every weekend. She'd drop on by, and greet her mother with open arms. Then, she'd focus herself on Barry. She still made time for him, yet he was still the little naïve teenager who thought that he could get away with his lies. He'd push her away, and go off training again for the better, and for his sake. He didn't see it, but it hurt Dawn when he pushed her away. Little by little, her weekly visits had turned into monthly visits, and eventually, she never returned.

When Dawn didn't come, Barry slowly would realize just how bad it would be without her visiting. To not be able to see her face, smiling at him and calling him a big idiot, or glaring at him when he did something stupid, made his heart sink. Because without her, it wasn't the same anymore.

And as he stood in the center of Lake Verity, staring out into the sunset before him, glimmering ever so beautifully upon the smooth waters of the lake itself, he simply let himself think. His mind roamed with all those lies he had cooped up everywhere, and he felt like hitting his head against the tree nearby. Oh, how he wanted to see her again. To see her once more, and hug her tightly in his arms, and show the bluenette that his little white lies were no more.

In mere moments, that was exactly what he did once he heard his name being called upon by her familiar voice.

"Barry?"
