I've the title for this for ages, but no actual content to fill it with! Then I watched the winter trailer again and saw that the number plates on some of the cars weren't English and it all spiralled from there :)

Please review and let me know what you think! I might do a couple for of these, I don't know yet :D

Hope you enjoy! -Sophie x

NYC

America.

My darling,

Words cannot describe how much I miss you Gracie. I know you've only been gone for a week but it already feels like a year, and at some points- much longer.

How are you liking America? New York was always my favourite when I lived there. You won't remember, but you've been to NYC before. You were four and just getting to that cute inquisitive stage. It was a frosty December weekend, and for the first time that year I had gotten the weekend off, so I decided to take you to the zoo.

Oh, how you loved it! I can picture the scene now- the hat you wore was so big it kept falling over your eyes, making you huff impatiently. It was pink and handmade by your grandma with pretty purple flowers embroidered around the bottom. You were all wrapped up in your purple coat and scarf that matched your hat. Most of the day was spent jumping through the snow in your wellies (I had only bought you them the day before and you absolutely adored them) rather than looking at the animals, but when you did I could see your eyes light up.

Do you remember any of this? I do, like it was just yesterday. We visited the lion enclosure together, and you held onto my hand really tight because you thought they might escape and steal our snacks. I picked you up and twirled you round to cheer you up, just as it began to snow again and the lions started to stir ready for their tea.

You watched with avid fascination as the keepers threw in their meat and vegetables- one of them waved at you and you waved back like your life depended on it. You lost your mittens in the restaurant at lunch that day, so your fingers fought the cold in my oversized gloves. My fingers were going red without them but I didn't care; I was smitten with you.

We were so happy Grace, can you not remember?

We got back to the apartment and I made us both some hot chocolate and marshmallows with cream, and we sat by the fire watching Snow White on the tv together. You fell asleep curled up to me, hugging my arm as if I were your favourite teddy bear.

I wasn't, but I was your mamma bear wasn't I? I loved it when you called me that, you used to laugh and giggle as if it were the funniest thing in the world. Your eyes would dance and your voice was as sweet as a songbirds, only much more beautiful.

I miss those times Gracie, I really do.

Enclosed, you'll find the spectacled bear teddy you bought that day at the zoo- I was in the attic the other day and I found it, so I thought I'd send it over so you could think of your mamma bear when ever you saw it.

For you, with love,

Mummy xx"
