Oh I wonder where you are.

Are you near, or are you far?

Are you looking at the same old moon as me?

Are you alone tonight?

Are you safe and warm by candlelight?

Oh I wonder, oh I wonder.

In another place and time, could you have been all mine?

To have and to hold, to cherish your whole life through?

Was it just not meant to be?

A sad romance, a tragedy...

Oh I wonder, oh I wonder.

Now I walk these streets alone without your hand to hold and I look into the sky and call your name.

If the world came to an end, and I never saw you again... oh I wonder, oh I wonder.

Ron Weasley sat alone in the forest. He couldn't believe what he had just done. Hermione was right, as usual. He had been saying those things mostly because of the Horcrux. It had made him go out of control. The little nagging things in the back of his mind had inflated into big elephants in the space of his mind, causing him so much pain he couldn't see what was really there.

What if he died? What if they died? He would never forgive himself if something happened to Hermione that he could have prevented. Or Harry, for that matter. What if the Order lost and it was all his fault because he hadn't been there?

Ron tried to Apparate back to the tent as soon as he left. It didn't work. He had forgotten where the tent was. Hermione had probably set up a spell to keep out unwanted visitors.

Sighing, he lay back down on the hillside. The moon shone brightly through the tops of the trees. He and Hermione used to sit up and watch the moon. They had sneaked out across the roof of the Burrow at exactly midnight to watch the sky on a lunar eclipse. As the moon turned red slowly, and the rabbit in the moon lost his tail, Hermione had taken his hand and moved closer to him. Sleepily, they just managed to get back inside before dawn.

There was no way that was ever going to happen again, the way things were going. Ron couldn't stop himself thinking of her and Harry watching the stars together. He cried himself to sleep that night.

Eventually, Ron collected himself enough to think about finding some sort of shelter. He knocked on Bill and Fleur Weasley's door and they accepted him with no criticism. Ron stayed there for a week and a half and left, replenished and refueled. It was crucial that he get back to Harry and Hermione now.

One day, he was sitting in a tree where he had slept the night before. Absentmindedly, Ron took the Deluminator out of his pocket and flipped the top, emitting a glowing ball of light. The sight comforted him and he thought of Hermione nagging him to quit messing with the lights. The more he thought of Hermione, the bigger the grin on his face and the flutter around his heart got. Thinking of her didn't hurt anymore. It inspired him to work harder to find her.

Ron watched the orb sleepily for a while, but was jerked back to reality when he heard his name. "Ron..." said the light...in Hermione's voice. Hearing her voice made his heart clench, but it wasn't really painful. He was stunned. He reached out his arm to touch the thing and it seemed to be sucked up his arm and into his heart. Ron felt the burning in his mind also. On a hunch, he Disapparated. The next thing he knew, he was in a cold wood and there was a glowing silver deer in front of him, beckoning for him to follow.
