A/N: Another PMMM flash bingo drabble, prompt 177; insect. This should be the last one of these for a bit. Coming up next, the next chapter of Afterimages, so you have that to look forward to.

He is a being with many names. Kyubey. Incubator. Cat-bunny. Angel. Friend. Demon. White devil. He takes them all without complaint. For he knows too that humans are selfish. Selfless. Cruel. Kind. Erratic. Oblivious. Unstable. They are only one of a multitude of sentient species that inhabit the universe, and they are the least, and the greatest, of all of them.

By the standards of his people, they are all insane, afflicted with the disease known as 'emotion'. Yet it is unfortunate that the most unstable species in the universe is the only one that can save it. He's seen that for himself many times, in the wishes they make. Wealth. Friendship. Love. Attention. Skill. Power. Revenge. Redemption. Purpose. Faith. Second Chances. Last Chances. 'One More' Chances. Life. And he's seen it in their reactions. , as they learn that what they thought they wanted wasn't, in fact, what they truly wanted. That a Soul Gem wasn't simply called that just because it looked good and stored your magic. That the things they were fighting were what they would inevitably become.

So he takes their insults, their curses, their tears and their pleading with an indifferent attitude and cold, analytical logic, doing what is necessary to ensure that his task is completed, for the protection of everything. He feels no remorse, and even if he were capable of experiencing an emotion such as that, he still wouldn't. And why should he?

After all, to him they are nothing more than animals, insects either. As a whole, they are invaluable to the maintaining of a functional ecosystem, just as humans are to the preservation of the universe from entropy. But as individuals they are worthless. No one gave even a thought to the death of one fly. And one human life was just as meaningless, not when there were a thousand more contractees waiting to take their place. Cruel though it might be, that was the truth of the matter.

So he plays his part, lets them delude themselves into sacrificing their destiny for the sake of the universe, unsuspecting of what their task truly entails. He is their confidant, their shepherd, their ally, their best friend and in the end their worst enemy. He leads them in the role they have assigned themselves with a veneer of understanding that couldn't be more false. He doesn't understand them, not deep down, not these irrational, unpredictable humans. And he doesn't particularly want to. After all, they are mere insects, stumbling along with their petty wants and desires, while he works to save the universe itself from extinction.

Still, in the end, he puts on his show, for their sake. After all, he does have a quota to meet.
