Rights to the characters belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

I claim the rights to the awkward, however.

Sesshomaru took one look at the puppy and scoffed. Rin held it out like it was some sort of delicate cake, her eyes rivaling the puppy's own liquid adorable.

"No, Rin." His cold voice broke the heavy and strangely deadly atmosphere; not that the little girl noticed. Rins bottom lip stuck out even more, and her shoulders started to droop. The black dogs eyes widened (impossible!) even more, and a pathetic whimper crept into the silence. The stoic demons resolve, however, didn't waver. His silver hair swept the ground as he walked away, his golden eyes turning away with him. Not in a retreat, as he kept telling himself.

Rin sighed quite loudly, but put the canine down. She never disobeyed the Lord of the West, but somedays he felt he was being played just the same. As he continued on gracefully, the light footsteps of his ward were predictably followed by messy, unstable duo tried their hardest to keep up, but they were steadily falling behind. Really, the mutt should know better. Couldn't it smell that Sesshomaru was alpha here, and clearly did not want the weak, young, pathetic thing to be near him, let alone follow him and his pack? He could hear Rin fall back a bit, to walk along beside the little thing. The little girl had too much heart, he mused.

Of all the humans for me to pick up. He shook his head mentally at his foolishness, however he knew he was right in his choice. After all, when was he ever wrong?

"Lord Sesshomaru?" He turned smoothly, peering down at the little girl in his care. "I need to relieve myself." She said, eyes downcast in her own way of pouting.

"Be quick." His deep baritone was wasted, as she was already diving for the brush, the pup unable to follow through the thick undergrowth.

As silence reigned, both the western lord and the youngster avoided eye contact. The small dog sat, the demon dog shifted his weight to one hip. The great and powerful poison wielder tested the air, the adorable pooch sneezed. Sesshomaru didn't move, the little ball of fur constantly wiggled.

"Thank you Lord Sesshomaru!" Rin fumbled her way back onto their path, brushing leaves and twigs off of her clothing. Both the occupants of the trail seemed to breath a sigh of relief.

Without a word, Sesshomaru turned on his heel and strode onward, perhaps at a slightly slower pace than before.
