A/N: I just read the book and loved it, and this song just reminded me about Rhine and Linden.
In Another Life:I look at the sea, the free, wild sea. The sea so many won't be able to see. I think about so many things at once, Cecily, Jenna and Linden, mostly Linden. Even though he kept me captured, I know he didn't think of it that way, nor will he understand why I ran way. From a rusty speaker on the roof of something my mom once explained to me to be a hot dog cart, played an old song that my mom used to listen to, the chorus started:
And in another life I would be your girl
I hate to even think it, but I miss him.
We keep all our promises, be us against the world
If the world was different we could be married, really married, have children and die together.
And in another life, I would make you stay
Hopefully Cecily will take care of him. I hope they will see their son grow up. I exactly doubt about it.
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away
I sighed, if only the world was different. Even though I tried to forget his face, I couldn't.
The one that got away
"Rhine?" Gabriels voice was soft. He held me in his arms. I can't help feeling sad, 'In another life' I think.
The one, the one, the one, the one
"Are you alright?" He asks me, I try to put my best fake smile on. "I'm fine."
And in another life I would make you stay
Then I started to think about Rose. Wouldn't it be more right if Rose and Linden could be together in another life? Instead of me and Linden?
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away
The song is going against its end. I close my eyes and take a silent goodbye with Linden.
The one that got away
