"Why do they say it like that?" Emma grumbled.

"Say what?"

"Our last names. Swan and Mills."

"I'm well aware of our last names, thank you."

"But they always say it the same way! How about a nice Mills and Swan? I like it."

Regina smirked with amusement. "That's what you're complaining about? Really?!"

"Yeah."

"Honestly, Emma," Regina's turned and started striding away, knowing the other detective would be scurrying to keep up with her. Giving the uniformed officer guarding the perimeter a nod and a smile, she flashed her badge and ducked under the police tape that the man politely lifted up for her, she continued, "it's a matter of proper etiquette."

"Etiquette?! Most of the guys on the force can't spell it, let alone say it. What the hell does etiquette have to do with it?" The blonde groused even louder and ducked under the yellow tape, taking note that the rookie had definitely lowered it a bit after her partner had passed under.

Regina stopped and turned around smoothly to face the blonde; the small amused smile hadn't left her face. "Alright, I'll tell you. Goodness knows you could use a few more manners."

Emma rolled her eyes dramatically. "Ms. Mill's Manners 101?"

"If you'd like."

"Gah. Just get on with it!"

"The reason why it's 'Swan and Mills' and not 'Mills and Swan' is that everyone knows the more dominant partner's name is last," she stated matter-of-factly.

The blonde detective sputtered. "What? No it's not!"

"Of course it is. You're my partner and just like a married couple, when they refer to us the last name is the dominant one." Regina replied quite smugly. "Apparently they know that I'm the one who wears the proverbial 'pants' in our... Relationship."

Emma stood before the brunette, her mouth gapping open but nothing coming out of it.

"Come along, Emma. We have a poor dead woman's murder to solve," Regina said as she turned smartly on her heel and strode away.

"But... But... Mills and Swan." the solitary figure murmured dejectedly to herself.

A long minute or two passed as Emma stared after her partner as she came to a stop near the body. She watched as the brunette cocked her hips to one side and placing a hand on her hips spoke in a low intimate tone to the crime scene techs in order that her voice wouldn't carry over to the small crowd that was gathering outside the yellow line.

At least Regina fills out those 'pants' nicely, making things around here more interesting to look at, she mused as she gave a little shrug and did her best not to look as if she was scrambling to catch up with her partner. As usual.

We're definitely discussing this topic again when we got home. Then we'll see who's the dominant one. I just have to remember to bring the keys to the handcuffs into the bedroom this time.
