One day, after Kenshin and the crew just finished defeating their wave of enemies, they went on the countryside to check out the scenery. About an hour into the excursion, they found a small village of people in it. There, they met Ainu villagers who were wary of the visitors they just got. The group was feeling uneasy from the looks they got from the villagers.

When they realized the looks the villagers shot at them, the village chief steps in and explain the looks they get. The villagers had just witnessed a massacre at a nearby village and don't want to go through that fate. After explaining what had happened, he introduced himself to the crew as Isonash. Kenshin and the others followed suit and were introduced to Isonash's family. His son, Pasekur, who looks to be about 15 years old, follows suit.

He had just come back from doing a day of work on the riverbank and plays his tonkori. Kenshin says, "Wait a minute that music sounds familiar. Why does this one remember hearing this kind of music?" While playing it, Pasekur explains to the crew what the significance of the instrument is. After the introductions, the family and the others shared each other's stories.

Yahiko asks, "So what have you been doing before you came home today?" Pasekur replies, "I had just caught some fish and had just hung them and the net at the house." Megumi asks Isonash's wife, Hotene, "So how has it been going with the family and all?". Hotene replies, "Oh, things have been going very well, we've certainly have had our ups and downs, Hanako just got better from an illness she had. It was a terrible fever, but the medicine really helped." Sanosuke steps into Yahiko and Pasekur's conversation with a story of his own. "I left my family when I was 9 years old to join an army." he says. Pasekur replies with, "What kind of army did you join at the time?". "Why, I joined the Sekihō Army, of course." Sanosuke replies.

A couple of hours later, the crew and Pasekur went outside to fetch the fish he has caught. On the way, he demonstrates the skill in archery he was earlier talking about. He shot a fish while it was swimming in the stream into a rock and he picked up the fish and the arrow that shot it. After that, he shot a flying leaf before it hit the ground. Kenshin and the crew were standing there enthralled by what they just saw. Saito, still dubious, asks, "How long have you been using that bow?" Pasekur answers his question with, "I started using this bow about a month ago, and I have used a few bows before this one." "And how long have you been doing archery if I may ask?" asks Misao. "Oh, I've been using bows since about 5 years ago, give or take." responds Pasekur. When they reach the spot where the fish are hanging, Yahiko offers to help carry the catch back home, which Pasekur replies, "Thank you, I could use the help anyway."
