1Samwise Sailing
Upon the white shores he watched
the waves with bated breath.
Samwise, shall you turn back home
or sail away to your death?
The wind is chilling from behind you,
a bitter gust swept from the east.
There is not much left here to offer you
and you have now been released.
So with your newfound freedom from
this place you once called home,
Will you have the courage to face
the stormy seas and thrashing sea foam?
Lose not spirit, you shall be comforted
by the welcoming arms of a friend.
Shed no tears of sorrow, child,
for this is not the end.
The ship awaits, with fluttering sails,
for you to finally take the oars.
Do not lose faith, the hour is come
for you to leave these hither shores.
Push off the sand with all your strength
Samwise Gamgee, hold on tight.
And watch the sun melt into the horizon
and drift off into the night.
Lay down your head and close your eyes
for, at last, you may calmly sleep.
The sea is gentle and shall carry you home;
only smile, no need to weep.
For when you open up your eyes
you'll see a beloved sight.
Upon the shores Master is standing,
bathed in Valinor's golden light.
Taking your hand, he shall lead you
away and all your fears will fade.
You'll shudder to think of how dull
it would be had you have stayed.
For your time in Middle-earth is spent
and now you may finally rest.
And wake up to a glorious morning
in this sacred land of the West.
