Disclaimer: I don't own Malcolm in the middle. This is an AU story (obviously) and I don't own More then a name on the wall (with the exception of my add ins at the end

I saw her from a distance

Lois looked like she was 80 years old. she was only 45 but she looked old and tired. The young boy saw her from a distance. She looked familiar to him. Her son Francis had been in the war when his plane crashed. There were no survivors. That was what the report had been.

As she walked up to the wall

In her hands she held some flowers

Her tears began to fall

Life is full of choices. sometimes it is the right choice. Sometimes it was the wrong choice. For Lois it was hard to be positive. She couldn't be positive most of the time. She always loved her children but she didn't know how to be affectionate sometimes. She cried knowing that she had lost her first son.

She took out pen and paper

As if to chase her memories

She looked up to heaven

The words she said were these

"My boy was special," Lois whispered, "He meant so much to me. I wish I could see him just one more time you see, all I have are my memories. There are moments to recall. Father can you tell him that he's more then a name on the wall."

Lois's phone rang.

"Hal," she said picking it up, "I can't talk right now."

"Lois you have to come home," Hal said, "HUGE news"

She said

"He really missed his family

"Being home on summer day

"But he died for the Father and his country

"In a place so far away

"I remember just a little boy

"Playing war since he was three

"But this time I know

"He's not coming back to me"

Lois kissed the tip of her finger and put her finger to Francis's name.

"Father thank you for the memories. Thank you for the moments I can recall. Please Father tell Francis that he's more then a name on the wall."

The phone rang again.

"LOIS HURRY," Hal said.

"I'm coming," Lois replied.

Now they say that The Father listens

To prayers we don't even say

And I don't know if it's always true

But he was listening that day

She was asking for a miracle

One only the Father could provide

Her heart was fully opened and the Father saw inside

When Lois got back the first thing she noticed was there was an extra car parked out on the driveway. She thought that was odd but maybe Malcolm's friend was over. She also wondered what Hal could possibly mean by HUGE news. Change can happen so fast it's scary. Once things change they can't ever be the same again. That was hard to accept for anyone. And then she saw it.

She saw him from a distance

As he walked up past the wall

In his hands he held flowers

Once again her tears did fall

But now she didn't need any paper

To trace her memories

Her boy was back and her heart was light

Impossible as it seems

Lois had to blink. Was this really possible? Could she really be seeing her oldest son. But there were no survivors. That's what the platoon leader said. What the hell did it matter anyway? Her boy was back.

She thanked Him for the gift

He had given her the first of the fall

And thanks to the Father

Her son was more then a name on the wall
