An Old Ed

In a large, green field, an old man shambled through the grass.

He was tall, almost seven feet tall and wore a green jacket that's sleeves ends were crumbling and covered in sickly green it was a white shirt that had an angry looking peach on it, the words "Go Cobblers!" were on design was faded, an obvious sign of not being washed his legs were blue suspenders with black boots.

The old mans destination lie on the edge of a cliff, a tree resting near it.

It took ten minutes for him to reach wheezed and coughed but didn't stop, determination pulling him towards his goal.

Finally, he reached the tree.

Slowly he ran his hand on the trunks surface, memories of he and his friends time here watching the fireworks every year on the fourth...the view of the city on the dark night...

Shambling in front of the tree the man plopped down, letting out a yawn.

It was then he directed his attention to the two graves on the oaks were simple beyond waist height.

A name and the dates of birth and death were written on the stones the left was Edward Skipper Levine the left was Edward Marion Quince 1998-2086.

Ed smiled at his two friends."Hiya guys..." he wheezed his voice gravely."I-uh managed to make it like i promised.." Ed said again.

"Sorry i'm not in a coffin or anything, my daughter couldn't afford to have a custom grave dug like you guys." the oaf explained, he then sighed and closed his eyes.

"I don't blame her, she tried to get 's so sweet.." Ed babbled."Besides, i don't have to be in the ground right? We're together 's what matters."

Ed then looked out to the town below, a few years past it had fallen on hard times with an infestation that had killed the peach trees.

They were in their twenties when it happened and had moved to find better work in the big city with their they all grew old, raising kids and getting jobs.

Now the town was old and covered in vines and plants, like them, it had seen better days.

Ed's vision then started going dark around the edges and his heart began to beat slower, this was it.

Ed smiled."See you soon buckos..."

Memories of their lives began to run through his vision as his life gave way, the happy thoughts causing the large oaf to cry, in both joy from living a full life to sadness that he hadn't done more.

As the world faded around him Ed sighed, his chest not coming back up.

When he opened his eyes, he was young again, his eyebrow black and his clothes in good condition.

"S'up Lumpy." Eddy greeted as he helped his friend up."Hi Eddy!" Ed said in turn."Salutations fellows." Edd said with a wave.

Together, the three began to walk toward a bright light down the shaft of darkness they were in, the kids beckoning them forward.

Edward Horrace Vern 2000-2088.
