"Tell me something good," Albus says, looking over at Rose desperately. He wants to get out here, he wants to go anywhere else.
Rose shrugs, gloom also present on her face. "He's not marrying me, right?"
Albus rolls his eyes. He hates Rose.
Except, that's not true. Rose is his favorite cousin.
He really hates his sister. Lily. The perfect Lily. The perfect child.
And above both of them, he hates Scorpius.
Wow, does he hate Scorpius.
"Scorpius."
A grin is on Albus' face. He can't help it, really. Just saying Scorpius' name makes him smile. He loves the feel of it on his lips.
"Albus," Scorpius responds, a wide grin also across his face.
"Scorpius," Albus repeats. He doesn't have anything else to say, but he doesn't need to say anything. That's the beauty of dating Scorpius, at least for Albus. "I love you," he adds, after a moment of silence. Scorpius grins.
"I love you, too."
Lily looks gorgeous, of course. Lily's always gorgeous, and since she's the only girl, Albus' mom went all out for her.
She walks down the aisle, as Albus stands. She floats as she walks; Albus doesn't believe her feet are actually touching the ground. He can't see them though; they're covered by her long gown.
She's glowing and beaming as she walks, all the way down the aisle.
To Scorpius.
"God, I hate exams. Who ever invented them?"
Albus rolls his eyes. "If you'd actually do your work, Scorpius, you'd do fine. Study."
Scorpius pouts and flops his head onto Albus' lap. Albus tries not to wince.
"But looking at your pretty face is so much more fun than studying."
Albus can't see his own face, but he is sure that he's blushing.
"See, it's so cute when you blush," Scorpius reasons. He pushes himself up and plants a kiss on his lips.
Yup, Albus is blushing, all the way down to his neck.
Albus doesn't even know what the minister is saying. He's never really gone to church before; his family isn't at all Christian, but Scorpius' family is big on religion and traditions.
It's really boring and Albus hates all of it.
Scorpius and Lily both say their 'I do's, looking lovingly into each other's eyes. And then the minister looks around and proclaims:
"If any of you has reasons why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace."
Everyone's quiet.
And then Albus holds his breath and stands up.
"I want to break up with you."
Albus' world stops in seven words. Except Albus' world doesn't stop, because Scorpius is his world, and Scorpius continues to speak.
"I just don't feel like we're working out together," he continues. Albus tries to say something, but his words are caught in his throat. "I'm sorry."
"I thought you loved me?" Albus asks, forcing the words out.
"I did."
They're both quiet and Scorpius plants a kiss on Albus' forehead. It burns.
"I'm sorry."
Albus doesn't know what to say. Scorpius is looking right at him, into his eyes, his grey eyes looking betrayed.
Albus wants to say that everything is wrong, that Scorpius should marry him instead, but he can't. So, he sits back down.
"Sorry."
